4.0 out of 5 stars Early Guess Who Garage Sounds
Here are the early recordings (and Sundazed undoubtedly picked the best of 'em) by The Guess Who. Their cover of Johnny Kidd & The Pirates' "Shakin' All Over" certainly shook up radio in that great rock year 1965. Unfortunately, everything else kinda suffered in comparison, but there are some real gems here, such as "Use Your Imagination"...

The Guess who had some brilliant moments. A couple of them are here but as far as Guess Who albums go, this was very average.

Here are the early recordings (and Sundazed undoubtedly picked the best of 'em) by The Guess Who. Their cover of Johnny Kidd & The Pirates' "Shakin' All Over" certainly shook up radio in that great rock year 1965. Unfortunately, everything else kinda suffered in comparison, but there are some real gems here, such as "Use Your Imagination" (previously unreleased), a very good cover of The Hollies' "You Know He Did", "Gonna Search", and "It's My Pride", with a terrific vocal by brand new member Burton Cummings, who quickly took over lead vocal chores when Chad Allan (who sang "Shakin'") started suffering throat problems. Excellent liner notes, giving us a history of this early incarnation of the group. As much as I like some of the group's RCA recordings, these show a grittier, rawer sound, and are a real treat, especially for garage band fans. You'll skip some of the tracks (mainly due to rather weak lyrics), but more than half of this CD is really rockin'.
