This review is from: Shaking the Tree: A Collection of Fiction and Memoir by Black Women (Hardcover)
Let me preface my review by stating that I'm not done reading this book. I guess that's a bad sign. I do plan to finish it, though.I'll give it to Ms. Danquah - Shaking the Tree is a ecletic collection of women's prose and memoir, but the book is slow. There are selections about racism, politics and sexuality. Yet they don't personally move or stir me. I just can't put my finger on it. I first bought Shaking for its intriguing subject matter, however once I got into it, nothing clicked for me. I give it 3 stars for its efforts. But read it for yourself. It's worth giving a try. Maybe it'll move you. |
