Book Description

November 15, 2002
What Shall I Write? I don't know how to say it! That's been every one of us at one time or another.

Does panic set in when you need to pen an apology, make an awkward announcement, maybe send a Get Lost! note? Have you been trapped into accepting an assignment someone else cheerfully volunteered you for, and you absolutely don't want to do it? Ever wondered how to congratulate someone you secretly resented? Or how to wish someone well, even though their accident might just have been their own fault?

Even in this age of e-mails, you still need the words! And they don't always spring to mind when needed. Whether English is your first language or not, the examples in this lighthearted book will get you started. Obviously, you won't find every possible scenario represented. No one wants to plow through an encyclopedia, just to get help with a paragraph or two. But you can adapt the wording of many of the letters to suit your own situation if need be.

Finally, help has arrived. You don't have to chase down your friends at nine o'clock at night to help you put something together before tomorrow morning's mail pickup.

More About the Author

Shirley Ann Parker grew up in Eastleigh, Hampshire, England and came to the US in 1961 to work as a very young nanny in Pennsylvania, a job that didn't work out! Her journey then took her to Michigan, Illinois, Southern California, Minnesota, Utah, and back to California, where she has now lived since 1984. She shares her home with her husband Ken and the latest two rambunctious cats.

Along with three published books: Discoveries - A Journey Through Life, What Shall I Write? - Personal Letters for All Occasions, and Between The Spaces of A Writer's Life, her fiction and non-fiction writing for all ages has appeared in a variety of publications. She has often written to validate the dreams and concerns of women and men trapped in lives of not-so-quiet desperation. Her themes are family, friendship and a sense of wonder. She is a visual and humane writer with a delightful sense of humor.

Shirley's other current interests include her church, reading, marine life, and now, caregiving. Lifelong interests include photography, tennis, knitting and crocheting. However, those interests sometimes have to give way to the demands that the computer keyboard makes on her hands and wrists. Shirley is working on several books for children. She has a B.A in English and a minor in Communications from Weber State University. She is a senior technical writer and has held some pretty distressing other jobs along the way!

Some of the letter examples were far fetched. I would of liked more samples of practical, everyday letters. Letters to distant relations, old school mates etc.. short snips that could also be used on facebook.
