Hopeful and Sweet, & Please read it to your kids!,

This review is from: Shalom, Salaam, Peace (Paperback)
I first saw this book when I was substitute teaching for the pre-kindergarden class, an audience that received the book very well of course. The illustrations are beautiful, and the message is both hopeful and unbiased towards any religious affiliation or political group. There are colorful pictures of all Israelis, from Hasidim, soldiers, and kibbutzniks to Arabs, Muslims, and Christians.
The message of peace is 100% affective for the young listeners. Adults, however, have already formed many political views and are more cynical about ever achieving peace in Israel. There are many people in Israel that would laugh at this book, as many have tried to be peaceful without success. I, having just been in Israel for the summer, also think peace is not easy because there are people on both sides that have a lot of anger in their hearts. Many families have lost close family members in war and many have lost their homes as well. But I believe in peace, and I believe that the way to achieve it is to read THIS BOOK to the younger generations who are not yet bitter from painful attacks on their family. With all that I know about Israel's history, and the terrorists of Islamic jihad, I still began to hope for the peace that the book described. I really am waiting for the Messiah, descendant of King David, to herald the era of peace, but until then I recommend reading this book to children first, and then to adults. I am buying this book for my best friend, Tova, who lives in Jerusalem and recently had her first baby boy. My wish for her is that her son Amitai will never need to join the army because there will be peace in Israel by the time he is 18 or sooner, please G-d!

Shalom, Salaam, Peace,
This review is from: Shalom, Salaam, Peace (Hardcover)
I really goofed. I thought I was buying the adult edition of this book, but when it arrived I discovered it was a children's book. I glanced at it and then put it aside for my granddauger age 11. From the glance my thought was that we need more of this type thought going out - just because we think differently we are all the same and we need to seek this sameness if we are to have peace in the world.
