4.0 out of 5 stars Great Introduction to the Aleph Bet, includes Hebrew Songs, May 1, 2005
By
Havah (Chicago, IL) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Shalom Sesame Show 9: Aleph-Bet Telethon [VHS] (VHS Tape)
The beauty of this video is not just in the engaging way that it teaches the letters of the aleph-bet (Hebrew alphabet) but in the inclusion of your favorite Sesame Street characters singing in Hebrew. Ernie and Bert do a Hebrew version of their famous skit where Ernie turns the alphabet into a story. The Count sings the numbers one through ten in Hebrew and Cookie Monster sings in Hebrew about healthy food. There are a number of cameos by actors and actresses from the late 80's interacting with the muppets. Kippy ben Kipod (the Israeli version of Big Bird, he is a porcupine) and Moshe Oofnik (the Israeli Oscar, he is a grouch) have prominent roles. I have only two complaints with this video, one is that there is no English captioning of the Hebrew songs (the assumption is that the viewers are not yet reading). The second is that most of the Hebrew songs are sung at the pace at which Israelis speak, which is far too quickly for those just learning Hebrew to follow. However, the songs do provide great entertainment value and do give the non-native Hebrew speaker a good sense of the flow of the language.

5.0 out of 5 stars Learning your Aleph-bet, November 5, 2002
By A Customer
This review is from: Shalom Sesame Show 9: Aleph-Bet Telethon [VHS] (VHS Tape)
My son was a year old when I bought this video. He is now 19 months and has still not tired of it.
I myself have not tired of it. Sesame Street is a series that I grew up on and I am so pleased that my son is now able to learn the Hebrew Alep-bet with the same tried and tested series.
I would recomend this video to anyone who wants to teach their children the Aleph-bet. I myself am now buying other videos in this series.

4.0 out of 5 stars we like it!, December 22, 2003
This review is from: Shalom Sesame Show 9: Aleph-Bet Telethon [VHS] (VHS Tape)
My son is going on three and has been watching this video, as well as others from the same series, since he was around one. He enjoys them! Althought the footage is rather dated (very 80's)the songs are fun. I plan on buying more from the same series.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great fun hebrew video, December 24, 2005
This review is from: Shalom Sesame Show 9: Aleph-Bet Telethon [VHS] (VHS Tape)
This entertaining & humorous video is great at teaching the hebrew alphabet (the Aleph Bet) to toddlers and anyone else wishing to learn it. I tried teaching a toddler the traditional Aleph Bet Song but she didn't take to it--the Aleph Bet song from the movie though, she can't stop singing!

To teach the hebrew letters in this video, there is a Telethon (hosted by the funny Jerry Stiller) whereby the characters take phone calls from people donating letters of the Aleph Bet. Each letter or set of letters donated is focused on, thereby introducing the letters to the viewer.

Although this movie does not translate all of the hebrew words spoken by the characters (sometimes they speak hebrew & sometimes they speak english), it is a must have for any young person (or older person) wishing to learn the Aleph Bet.

Guest stars include: Jerry Stiller, Joan Rivers, Itzhak Perlman, Tracey Gold, & Jeremy Miller.

4.0 out of 5 stars good but a little old, November 10, 2002

THere are not a lot of aleph bet learning videos out there, so buy it if you want one. It isn't bad, and parts of it are downright entertaining. However, it is a little old. The jokes, the video quality, the Hollywood stars (and their recognizability), etc are outdated.
