"Shamanic Mysteries of Egypt" is a wonderful melding of Linda Star Wolf's channeled wisdom and Nicki Scully's placing this wisdom in a context that can be placed into the reader's life. Through story, meditation, visualization, and ritual,Scully and Star Wolf take us deeply into the world of Egyptian mythology, basing their work of alchemical death and rebirth on twenty-six of the primary Egyptian divine entities, along with the four elements of Fire, Water, Air and Earth.

This is a journey of initiation, and is not to be taken lightly. Through techniques such as breathing the earth and the sky, stepping off of a cliff, and morphing into a Dove, step by step the reader is taken through an alchemical death and rebirth.

The one thing that I would have liked to have seen expanded is the commentary correlating the divine entities with the archetypes of the Tarot. Walk with Thoth and Anubis, and place permanent change in your life.

5.0 out of 5 stars A Deeper Understanding of the Mysteries, April 30, 2007
This review is from: Shamanic Mysteries of Egypt: Awakening the Healing Power of the Heart (Paperback)
As a long-time student of Nicki Scully, I am always glad to see a new book or cd from her. I know that the quality will be superb, and the information will be right on. I am delighted with the book Shamanic Mysteries of Egypt, both for its deep exploration of the Mysteries of Egypt, and the tools that it gives us. This is a book that is meant to be experienced, not just read. I am sure it will become a classic for all students of Shamanism and Egyptian Mysteries.

4.0 out of 5 stars Excellent Companion Book for Personal Study, April 2, 2008
This review is from: Shamanic Mysteries of Egypt: Awakening the Healing Power of the Heart (Paperback)
I'd never heard of the authors before I came across the book. Thumbing through it, it didn't seem like much, but when I felt compelled to bring it home the second time I was in the bookstore, I realized what a gem this is.

The first few chapters taught me more about my patron deity- Anubis- than the Book of the Dead did. That's saying a -lot-, given how many sources I've looked to to find information about him and the other deities. Most sources say "this deity is known for doing __" or "this deity stands for __"- not very in depth to a practitioner. (I'm a Wiccan with a slant towards the Egyptian pantheon, and with a few years of formal training behind me.)

The book is laid out in chapter format, and each chapter gives you a guided meditation. I strongly recommend recording them onto a tape if you're able, especially with some soft background music going. Be careful with them and make sure you personally are ready for each new level.

The book is wonderfully concise with clear details- no useless bits. I love it.

5.0 out of 5 stars Marriage of Spirit and Matter, July 20, 2007
This review is from: Shamanic Mysteries of Egypt: Awakening the Healing Power of the Heart (Paperback)
My entry into the arches of this mythic architecture, was both intellectual curiosity, and an intuitive yearning to embrace what had long been hidden or shrouded. The "Shamanic Mysteries of Egypt" served to unfold the petals of the collective archetype into such a fundamental wisdom necklace, so that mental clarity began to crystallize. I understood the relational constellations of the Egyptian gods and goddesses.... But Understanding, from a perspective that grips the tissues of "how we Know" itself, soon walked out of the mist of ancient alchemical inscriptions, into a luminous Dream-talk that induced a kind of spiritual seduction. Entranced by the mythopoetic invitations into this universal drama of Spirit engaging its own discovery, Nicki Scully and Linda Star Wolf gradually open those ancient secret doors, and allow the engaged reader into the Soul's castle Keep, where we Feel/Know/See the patterns behind the patterns,,,, These revealed keys, reach into fundamental substrates of our most primal questions of spiritual discovery, becoming the Inner architecture, the cognitive lens, that so fluidly frames both analytical reflection, and mystical experiences. It is important when walking the corridors of these proto-cultural architectures, to Trust, to heartfully engage, to allow for the parade of sensual-spiritual anima and animus to unlock the unKnown mythos that is both within and without, and breathe the new atmospheres of Knowing with an innocent and tempered appreciation. The instructions for each veil ripping process are concise, clearly progressive, and graceful psycho-spiritual invocations into a new world of perception.
My most sincere appreciation to Nicki Scully and Linda Star Wolf for allowing me the opportunity to discovery such stellar foundations of our planetary wisdom legacy.

This is a very well researched and well written book. It reminds me of a catechism for modern day born-again Egyptians, and is presented as absolute truth. Beautiful illustrations, evocative meditations and interesting concept.

5.0 out of 5 stars a nice read, July 21, 2007
This review is from: Shamanic Mysteries of Egypt: Awakening the Healing Power of the Heart (Paperback)
Nicki Scully and Linda Star Wolf have written a fun and strange manual that teaches us how we can unlock the secrets of the New Age teachings with the help of the shamanic Egyptian mysteries.

In addition to an array of beautiful illustrations, the authors have effectively organized the book into three parts. The first two contain instructions on performing rites of passage and meditations with a little help from our friends, the always accessible primary divine entities of prehistoric Egypt. The third section focuses on the four elements: water, earth, fire and air. The best part is a super-cool glossary of the gods, each with whom I connected for drinks at various stages while reading. I must say that while I got on well with them all, my favorite has to be Sekhmet because she "helps us to shape-shift into our future selves." And after turning into a hot pink unicorn, who could ask for anything more?

As we read this book our consciousness and awareness grow more deeply, but perhaps never as deeply as the weirdness of the rituals. Although I admit that being placed in a sarcophagus to undergo an initiation sounds like tremendous fun, having to surrender my DNA to a god's or goddess's will is bit much. Don't get me wrong, I am sure this was perfectly fine in the good old days, but now who the hell knows where your genes might end up?

In essence, Shamanic Mysteries of Egypt: Awakening the Healing Power of the Heart is a nice read. And while some pages left me as bored as the Great Sphinx has been since the Bronze Age, it would be a good $16 mind trip into mystical Egypt for anyone who's ever pondered about Isis, Osiris and their many pals.

1.0 out of 5 stars More New Age crap hanging on the coat tails of Ancient Egyptian magic and religion, August 5, 2011
This review is from: Shamanic Mysteries of Egypt: Awakening the Healing Power of the Heart (Paperback)
I have loved Ancient Egypt from the time I was a small child and over the course of my life have to come learn quite a bit about it as well as take to some of it's spiritual precepts with avid love for the goddess Aset(Isis). There are plenty of academic and historical accounts of what Ancient Egypt was(or what they think it was), but there is little to do with Kemeticism. I understand it is a hard task to reassemble the pieces of a centuries dead school of thought, magic and religion, but I do know that THIS book is far from it and falls flat on it's face.

More of the same New Age mumbo jumbo wherein the author here has taken extreme liberty in developing guided meditations about whom they think the various gods and goddesses in the Egyptian pantheon were. Most of the information here is what can be gleaned from any book addressing Ancient Egyptian religion, but then twisted so shamelessly into what the author feels is correct it leaves me quite astounded. The author/s who wrote this seemingly took no historical facts regarding ritual, how to approach the gods, or anything to do with authentic worship it makes me sick. With such a limited amount of modern books about REAL Kemetic practices, this book is embodies the "two steps forward, three steps back" feeling. While I appreciate any attempt to bring life again to the majestic and obtuse rituals of the past, this book does a disservice to all who seek to know more about this.

It is once again just more New Age mumbo jumbo name dropping Ancient Egypt in order to seem enlightened and mysterious. I read a good deal and found so much of it totally unpalatable as so much clashed with what I have read academically. Somebody clearly did not do their homework and instead wrote what they "felt" these Egyptian gods were about. Don't believe me? Waste the $16 bucks like me and find out yourself. The description on Amazon says "This fresh interpretation of ancient mysteries" would better read "This half-assed New Age raping of Kemeticism and the Neteru..."

For those with a medium to extensive knowledge base about Ancient Egypt, stay away, this will make you angry and sad. Really, the only people I can see enjoying this are new agers looking for the next hip and "enlightened" idea(I suspect these are the same people who gave it high reviews). Not authentic or based on fact in the least. Any information found regarding the gods is either so basic you will find it in any book regarding Ancient Egypt or so made up it will make you sick.

Couldn't even finish reading this book. I have been to Egypt and have been fascinated by anything Egypt since I was a kid. This was not fascinating. Totally mind games and imagination. If you have a buddy who wants to play with these visual imaginations then you could read them to each other. Otherwise, it is impossible to do while you are personally reading them. Probably better if these authors would have done a cd taking you on their mind journeys. Can't say that it had anything to do with Egypt other than the authors may have visited there.
