Touching and emotional...,
By Dokter Pogo (New Orleans) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Shame (Audio CD)
Brad conveys emotion like Monet could paint flowers...with a natural ease and a unique style that cannot be denied. The uplifting songs on this album will make you feel elated, while the softer ballad-type songs will have you weeping like a child. When I first bought this, I could only listen to it in small doses. Too much would wear me out emotionally, and I would be put off from listening to it again for a long time. I only play it once every 2 years or so, but I still consider it one of my favorites. I remember back in '94, driving my car in the rain, singing along, and all of a sudden, I'm sobbing like my dog died. A few songs later, I'm bobbing my head along to the music like I don't have a care in the world. It's that magical. Most musicians can only dream of crafting songs this real.

Shame (on you if you don't have this album),
By Cillie Girl (Bend, OR) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Shame (Audio CD)
Essential music for the serious soulful individual tired of the mindless garb of radio. Beautifully written, the delivery of each song is nothing short of mindblowing. I heard this album for the first time 10 years ago, and from the first few bars of "Buttercup" I was hooked. Shawn Smith, is an incredible singer full of raw emotion. The whole album is one of the best, but my favorite song (one I still have to hear every day) is 20th Century ~ GROOOOOOOV-O-MATIC! If you don't own this album, waste no time in buying it, you won't be sorry.

I actually first heard this cd when I was married in 1994. When my husband and I divorced, he kept the cd. For years I've had it in my head but couldn't get my hands on it. I've actually been looking for it ever since and the local music stores didn't have it. And I was so happy that I found it here, that I was dancing in the shower. I absolutely love this cd and it is a must for anyone who considers themselves to "know" good music. --tabby--

Different and Refreshing,
By A Customer
This review is from: Shame (Audio CD)
I used to kinda smirk when my roomate put this cd in, then something started to happen. Soon I started to really listen, it opened my mind, I think maybe the first song must of brought me down a little. I found out this if the kinda mood music a person needs to have around, "an esential album". I bought the second album a few years later, I love it, but Shame, difently has a different, unique kinda feel. Most of the songs on here are mesmorizing, very groovy, and quite possibly some of the best music that you never heard on the radio.

Temple of The Dog-Revisited,
By A Customer
This review is from: Shame (Audio CD)
If you were a Temple of The Dog fan, knew who Mother Love Bone was and who Pearl Jam is...you will at very least thoroughly enjoy this disc. It's been out for quite a while and I've already literally worn one copy out (no kidding). "Buttercup"'s sensuality is undeniable and "Down" with it's almost eerie feel fills a room with emotion.

Outstanding from beginning to end...,
By Allan Lorde (Winnipeg, Manitoba Canada) - See all my reviews

I bought this album back in '93(on cassette!) after reading a small article on them in Spin. When I first listened to it, I didn't know what to make of it. My musical tastes were just beginning to branch out, so side projects were new to me(I'm pretty sure Stone doesn't see this as a "side project"). But with repeated listens, this album really grew on me. No, they don't sound like Pearl Jam. They sound like a band that will someday influence a ton of other bands--good bands--in the future, they're that good. At times, Stone's guitar sounds akin to a plane taking off. Shawn Smith's vocals might bring a tear to your eye. It's a rather emotionally downbeat album, but you'll still find it to be the perfect soundtrack for lyin' down in the park on the grass, looking up at the sky. Do yourself a favour and pick up this highly underrated album.

SHAME is the greatest for laid back music to groove to.,

I discovered Brad through their second album Interiors and noticed that they had a first album, Shame. I quickly purchased this with no second thought and was amazed! It has beautiful vocals by Shawn Smith and the bass guitarist is intensely smooth and melodic. I recommend this to anyone who enjoys the rock/funk side of the Seattle sound. BUY IT!

Still after 10+ years...One of the most essential cds to own,
By
This review is from: Shame (Audio CD)
... I couldnt believe i only spent a buck on it. I have since then moved on to cds. What can I say about this album...Shawn Smith is by far the most underrated song writers..while gossards trem-grooved layers drift over smiths falseto runs. Even more underappreciated are Jeremy Toback and Regan Hagar. Toback has since had a one hit wonder under his belt..."you make me feel" or something like the sort. Interiors was a more polished record, but the cd player keeps "shame" spinning away. Melodic, moody, sad, happy, groove-oriented, anti-pop. Groove in the middle of the grunge era... A TRUE GEM INDEED!!!

I was introduced to Brad through the brother of a friend and I'm happy to have both this album and "Interiors" in my music collection.Apart from being a good collection of music to listen to while doing just about anything, both CDs have special signifigance to me personally and they are very good at rekindling nostalgia. But you have to listen to it first to have nostalgia later, so get the CD now! :) My favorite track to drive to (which doesn't get justice in the sample) is "20th Century." It has a great intro that builds layer upon layer. "Buttercup" and "Down" are also favorites of mine.
