Shameless Art: 20th Century Genre and the Artists that Defined It

I should qualify myself, I am a painter/illustrator and an architectural Designer and I own a collection of more than 1,000 rare art books, almost all of which are vault stored at a nearby conservatory. Most the books in that collection I began buying while a high school and college student. I was also a tenured Professor of Advertising, Illustration and Architecture throughout most of my career. Between completing my Undergraduate and Graduate degrees, I attended the American Academy of Art and have been since installed in the American Academy of Art's Hall of Fame.

This book is not for the seasoned Illustrator, Professor, or collector who are seeking large format, exquisite reproductions, and prints rarely published. Thus, in my opinion, it is not in the category of classics, for it is a rehashing of dozens of prints already the subject dozens of books of the great pinup artists like Elvgren and Boles and several others including some lesser illustrators.

Shameless Art's pre-publication info ala the following, is more than a little misleading, RE: "This popular art set the stage for the advertised expression of today's more liberated consumer culture. Shameless Art explores the influential work of imaginative illustrators who helped create the visual language for everything from today's comic books, magazine and television advertising, as well as imaginative movies like Avatar (Avatar (2009) - (Added by me-Directed by James Cameron) and sensual films like Y Tu Mama Tambien." (Added by me-Directed by Alfonso Cuarón. 2001).

The paintings are lovingly presented in full page format. I only wish there had been some coverage about the artists, where the works were first published and how the publisher came to have these exquisite works of "Shameless Art".

This is some of the sexiest art that I have ever seen. Each line is perfect, every curve enticing. These are unhearlded artists that have fueled thousands of fantassies. Every smile beguiling, every figure beyound perfection. If there is art in heaven these paintings are there. It put a solid tent in my panties. dianefromcarroll@yahoo.com

I recall many of these from my hormone-laced adolescent years; I know that they shaped my standards of feminine beauty.
