More About the Author

TARA JANZEN, New York Times bestselling author, is the creator of the acclaimed Steele Street series of romantic suspense novels about a hotshot crew of former juvenile delinquents and car thieves in Denver, Colorado who grow up to become one of the U.S.A.'s most elite black ops forces. The eleven book series begins with CRAZY HOT and CRAZY COOL and finishes up with LOOSE ENDS. One of the books is on AMAZON'S TOP TEN ROMANCE LIST - LOOSE AND EASY, 2008. Three of her books are on the Romantic Times ALL-TIME FAVORITES list - RIVER OF EDEN, CRAZY WILD, and SHAMELESS.

Writing as Glenna McReynolds, she is the author of thirteen Loveswept romances, an epic medieval romantic fantasy trilogy, THE CHALICE AND THE BLADE, DREAM STONE, and PRINCE OF TIME, and a contemporary romantic adventure set in the Amazon, RIVER OF EDEN. Tara loves doing research for her books, and her love of anthropology and the natural sciences has helped her create the landscapes of her novels, from the rich historical background of THE CHALICE AND THE BLADE trilogy, to the shores of the blackwater rivers flowing through the Amazonian rain forest in RIVER OF EDEN. Her love of the shooting sports and American muscle cars fuels all the "crazy hot" and super fast-paced Tara Janzen novels of the Steele Street series.

I want to start by saying that Tara Janzen is a good story teller. I've enjoyed several of her other books and noticed that she's been publishing some of her older works on ebook and I thought I'd try it out. This particular short story had all the ingredients, lies, villains, sexual chemistry, etc... to be really great, but the thing that simply didn't work for me was the lack of balance between the H/h. The hero is a confused basket case and unfortunately the one who has to suffer for it is the heroine.

Colton and Sarah were crazy in love as kids, but Sarah's father, the disgusting town bully, managed to drive Colton away. Ten years later, Colton comes back home for the first time for his mother's funeral and he can't seem to deal with his emotions for Sarah.

There's a lot of other soap opera history with abusive relationships, mistresses, etc... going on, but in my opinion, it's not enough to drive the actions of our main characters. This is not a book where the guy realizes what he's lost and comes back to claim his lost love. He's confused and makes no promises, but the here and now with sex. The fact that he is a Navy SEAL has no bearing on the story whatsoever, so don't think you're getting a dashing suspense out of this. Sarah is an honorable and steady person, but she comes off as a doormat when it comes to Colton. He sleeps with her and leaves and she deals with it because she loves him. The end tries to balance things out a little, but it's definitely too little, too late. I would have been happier if Sarah had moved on and ended up with someone more deserving.

I'm a huge fan of Tara Janzen's Steele Street series. This book is a stand alone romance between two fun characters. Ms. Janzen does a great job of creating suspenseful plots that engage the reader in addition to the sizzling romance. Her knowledge of weaponry and espionage and military ethics makes for a satisfying read. Enjoy.

I really wanted to hate Colt. I wanted to punch his lights out several times. I don't know how Sarah did it. I was so proud when he went back and she wasn't sitting there waiting on him. That said, this was a really good story and I'm glad he finally got his s*** together.

I am a HUGE fan of Tara Janzen's Steele Street series. So...when I kept looking for more and never found any new ones, I decided to try one of her older books. While I enjoyed reading the book, I didn't feel the pull between the characters nor did I enjoy the plot as much as I did in the Steele Street books. I am sorry to say that I was disappointed, but yet I remain hopeful that she will find a way to write more Steele Street characters about whom she can write more stories.
