On assignment to prove leprechauns aren't real for his cable television show, I Don't Believe It!, Cassie's dad takes the Strange family to the Golden Shamrock Resort, which is supposed to be riddled with leprechaun trickery. Hoping to be the envy of her friends by staying at a luxurious spa, Cassie is sorely disappointed to discover her "posh" accommodations include a barn and a catfish-infested pool.

Determined to have fun, she and her brother Lucas make friends with another guest named Hank. Before long, Cassie discovers that Hank is actually a prank-loving magical being. He draws her into a game that traps her and Lucas in his secret underground world. Hank wants them to be his friends forever and the longer they stay in the underground paradise, the quicker their own world fades from memory. Will they be trapped forever? Or can Cassie and Lucas help Hank make friends in his own world so they can return to theirs?

Linda Joy Singleton is author of over twenty-five books for young people, including the award-winning Seer series, about a teen psychic.

More About the Author

From Linda Joy Singleton:

When I was 9, I wrote a short story about a cat named Taben and stapled it into a "book" with pictures, too. A year later I rewrote the book, writing it neater, adding chapter titles, and putting games in the back. I didn't know it then but I was "revising" my work, an early step to learning how to become a writer.

When I was 14, I challenged myself to type a chapter a day over my 2 week Christmas vacation, and I finished a book (200 pages) in two weeks. This was an important achievement to me because I proved to myself that I could finish a book. Up until then I had many starts but only one "finish."

So you'd think I was poised to become a young published author? Maybe...but life jumped ahead of my dreams. I started working at age 17 plus had a short marriage. I didn't dust off my writing dreams until I was 27 and a mother of toddlers. I started off small, writing in the evening when my husband was home to help with the kids. By the time they were in school, I had a schedule of writing in the mornings. I sold my first book when I was 30, a chapter book called ALMOST TWINS. Someday (when I'm quite famous) this will be my more rare book since only a few thousand were ever printed and it was only sold in school book fairs. My first book never made it to bookstores.

My 36th book, THE SEER #6. MAGICIAN'S MUSE, came out in 2010. And in 2012, a spinoff from THE SEER starring Thorn, BURIED, comes out in March. Also, I'm working on a big world-creating book now that will be my biggest achievement yet...stay tuned for more dreams coming true.

What a magical book! My 7.5 yr old daughter read this and loved it so much she begged me to read it. She said "it was the best book ever", and she's read a lot of books! She can't stop talking about it. I read it and enjoyed it. I understand why she loved it so much. We've ordered the other two in the series and can't wait to read them. What a fun and magical world Ms. Singleton has created!

Shamrocked is the second book in the Strange Encounters series. Cassie Strange and her peculiar family embark on journey to investigate leprachaun sightings. Cassie and her brother Lucas romp through the mountains and encounter a magical world filled with secrets. Young and old readers will enjoy this engaging story and delight in Ms. Singleton's fascinating characters.

I loved exploring with Cassie and am eager to see what adventures befall her in her next book!

Cassie and Lucas are befriended by Hank, one of the little people living underground in Mount Shasta. He takes them to his home, and they have so much fun they begin to forget their own world. But when Cassie remembers and they try to leave, Hank tries to stop them. So Cassie helps Hank solve the problem he didn't want to talk about, and he shows them them way out. And Cassie knows if she can solve Hank's problem, surely she can solve her own. And she does!
