One of the best books I've bought in a long time (and I'm always buying books)...I teach a 20th Century Design subject, and this book has been a great resource. Have recommended it to all my students who are interested in Chinese art & design. Very well written, provides a good overview of different aspects of modernism in Shanghai in the 1930s and 1940s..
