5.0 out of 5 stars the country music goddess from Ontario
Shania fans will love this concert, which is just wall-to-wall music. It is not what I expected to see at all; it has no lavish costume changes, no razzle-dazzle, no huge production numbers...just Shania, with her large and accomplished band, who play brilliantly for her, singing song after song.
She wears a chartreuse and black exercise outfit for the first hour,...

3.0 out of 5 stars Shania Twain: Live
While I am a Shania fan, and I loved the energy of the group, the show, and the songs on this DVD, the sound quality leaves me wanting and wishing. There is way too much crowd noise (for home viewing) for my tastes, and much of the bands music and her vocals are overpowered by the huge crowd and their noisy enthusiasm. It's not the sound quality we've come to expect...

5.0 out of 5 stars the country music goddess from Ontario, May 1, 2004
This review is from: Shania Twain Live [VHS] (VHS Tape)
Shania fans will love this concert, which is just wall-to-wall music. It is not what I expected to see at all; it has no lavish costume changes, no razzle-dazzle, no huge production numbers...just Shania, with her large and accomplished band, who play brilliantly for her, singing song after song.
She wears a chartreuse and black exercise outfit for the first hour, black pants and a leopard print jacket in the second half, with a jacket change for the last four songs. With little make-up and no jewelry, her beauty is spectacular.

The song list is:
1: "Man ! I Feel Like a Woman". '99 Grammy Award for Best Female Vocal Country Performance.
2: "Honey, I'm Home"
3: "You Win My Love"
4: "Whose Bed Have Your Boots Been Under ?"
5: "You're Still the One". '98 Grammy Award for Best Female Vocal Country Performance and Best Country Song.
6: "I Won't Leave You Lonely"
7: "Come On Over". '99 Grammy Award for Best Country Song.
8: "Love Gets Me Every Time"
9: "I'm Holding on to Love (to Save My Life)"
10: "When"
11: Medley: "Home Ain't Where His Heart Is (Anymore)" / "The Woman in Me (Needs the Man in You)" / "You've Got a Way"
12: "That Don't Impress Me Much"
13: "If It Don't Take Two"
14: "Black Eyes, Blue Tears"
15: "God Bless the Child". Proceeds for this song go to her favorite charity, Kid's Café.
16: "To Daddy". This is a clip of Shania singing when she was about 10.
17: "What Made You Say That" is sung by 8 year old Cailey Ervin.
18: "No One Needs to Know"
19: "Any Man of Mine"
20: "Don't be Stupid (You Know I Love You)". There are some dancers that do a jig on this one.
21: "From This Moment On"
22: "(If You're Not in it for Love) I'm Outta Here !". This is terrific; a band of young drummers join her for this great song.
23: "Any Man of Mine" (reprise)
24: "Rock This Country"
Total running time is 2 hours.

5.0 out of 5 stars Superb Performance, April 9, 2000

Rachel M Harrison (Melbourne, Australia) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Shania Twain Live [VHS] (VHS Tape)
The Music: Fantastic! Shania has an excellent live voice, and can see she really enjoys performing live to her fans. She is not the only person on stage having a great time, her musicians are constantly surrounding her playing their violins, guitars etc. and musically this video is a MUST for anyone who likes the music of Shania Twain.

Visually: A lot of concerts consist of a band at the back and the singers at the front doing what they do, and to watch on television can be a little disappointing. This concert, is extremely entertaining from beginning to end and won't leave you bored for a moment.

Highlights: Footage is shown of Shania when she was about 10 years of age singing. During the concert, we see just how lovely a person Shania is when she has a couple of young children on stage with her dancing with her. The whole concert is a highlight, it's fantastic and very entertaining.

Criticism: Basically I have none, except she gets a man on stage with her during my favorite song 'Dont Be Stupid' and he's REALLY annoying!

5.0 out of 5 stars Shania Twain - WOW!, January 9, 2000
By A Customer
This review is from: Shania Twain - Live (DVD)
I thought the DVD was very good. The sound quality is excellent. I am using a Sony DVD player ran through a Yamaha digital amp. I also have center channel audio. Now, to the video. It is 2 hours of really good stuff. Shania and her band are very energetic. Shania is a fan pleaser and gets her fans involved in her show. She is truly a remarkable person and hasn't forgotten her roots. She cares about the "little" people and I can't wait till her next addition is released.

5.0 out of 5 stars Shania Twain: Live, December 24, 1999

Great DVD of a great performer! For those of you who may have audio problems...When I first received the DVD from Amazon I played it on the DVD drive on my PC with two stereo speakers. The sound quality was not very good and Shania's vocals were washed out, as if the center channel audio was missing. I then played it on my Toshiba 2109 DVD player with the sound set at two channel analog and through a Dolby Pro Logic amplifier and the center channel sound (with Shania's lovely voice) was excellent. Try playing around with your DVD player's audio setting.

5.0 out of 5 stars ONE AWESOME LADY, November 22, 1999
By
This review is from: Shania Twain Live [VHS] (VHS Tape)
I have seen five (5) Shania Twain concerts. This video helps me re-live each and every one of them. I cannot get enough of her performances. I even made a cassette tape of the video so I could listen to the live music in my car. SHANIA is absolutely the hottest, sexiest, most beautiful woman in the music business to date. If you get this video, you may as well get the other videos to have a complete collection. "The Woman In Me" "Behind the Scenes" "Come On Over"

5.0 out of 5 stars Twain - A Balanced View of The Tamale From Timmons, January 23, 2000
By
R Amman (Lansing, Michigan) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Shania Twain Live [VHS] (VHS Tape)
Never heard of Shania Twain until I saw her on TV doing a couple songs on her own, then a duet with the Back Street Boys, I think; as part of some other show. A few weeks later, this eye arresting lady in a long pink coat and hot pink shorts was on some music awards show in late 1999. Seems like she sang "Man! I Feel Like A Woman" and the show host, Vince Gill, was stunned. Quite a while ago, I had considered marrying an intensely hot lady from Timmons who was similar to Shania. I later went through that town, partly due to a geological trip. So when someone mentioned Shania was from Timmons, I looked up her background/bio on the Internet. I see a lot of polarization of opinion about Shania, even in these reviews. I'll try to give a balanced view. On the plus side, she seems to be a combination of feminine essences that men drool to possess in a mate. Beautiful voice; sexy and energetic body; a tangy, teasing independence; foot stomping rhythms; sensitive, empathetic and evocative moods; dynamic spontaneity; skillful, confident and synergistic stage leadership; adaptable, personable, enthusiastic and supportive acceptance of others in her interaction with local individuals and groups she invites onstage. And her band members are so dynamic and talented that they could make a great show just by themselves. Their mostly masculine, impressive physical expressions are terrific contrapuntal to Shania's womanly femininity. On the less flattering side, I've seen this video a half dozen times in the 3 weeks I've had it. It really boosts my spirits after dealing with a well paid but impossibly demanding job. I am like the highly logical rocket scientist that according to one of her songs, don't impress Shania much. And she sure brings out the feelings in me. Has me crying and laughing and clapping and bouncing around. But those repeated viewings of the video reveal how much scripting there is. That's the down side. Some of the best of what appears so wonderful because of it's apparent spontaneity, is really staged and preplanned. Her husband - manager is skillfully creative in packaging & presenting his wife in this video, as the ideal mate to excite and develop a wide range of feelings in nearly everyman. But even with that, and even knowing that some of the songs are more for rhythm than substance or poetry, Shania is an exquisitely entertaining performer in this live show video.

3.0 out of 5 stars Shania Twain: Live, December 15, 1999

While I am a Shania fan, and I loved the energy of the group, the show, and the songs on this DVD, the sound quality leaves me wanting and wishing. There is way too much crowd noise (for home viewing) for my tastes, and much of the bands music and her vocals are overpowered by the huge crowd and their noisy enthusiasm. It's not the sound quality we've come to expect from DVD.

While it's not a dud, it's not equal to a Celine Dion (Colour of My Love)live concert performance--which sounds nearly like studio work--with some audience sounds nicely wrapping (not over powering) the performance.

Overall, I'm a little disappointed, and looking forward to the Shania Live: Visual DVD release December 21st.

4.0 out of 5 stars Make adjustments for best audio playback, December 29, 2000
By
This review is from: Shania Twain - Live (DVD)
I will have to agree with other reviews that on the first viewing the audio on this dvd was extremely disappointing, I don't have any serious gripes about the video, it looks good but not great compared to my other music videos. As far as the audio goes I felt something wasn't right, Shania's vocals were too live sounding with way too much echo/reverb, this drowned out, sometimes completely, the instruments in the band. With some experimenting I found it was only recorded in two channel stereo and trying to play it back in 5.1 digital mode made it sound horrible. The problem is though, is that it will automatically play in 5.1 digital mode because there isn't any audio set up mode on the dvd to change it. For example, the Eagle's DVD has a PCM stereo setting for those who don't have a DTS decoder. I think most people will experience this horrible sound if there system is set up to play in 5.1 mode. I had to go directly to my Sony DVD menu to make the change. After bringing up my menu I went to Audio. By highlighting Audio it gave me two audio settings for this DVD-2.1 digital and PCM stereo. I found that the 2.1 digital setting didn't help the sound at all but the PCM stereo setting completely changed the sound improving it immensely. I then had to change my receiver to 2 channel DVD mode instead of 5.1. Hearing the obvious improvement I had to watch it again. I can't tell you how much more I enjoyed the second viewing it completely changed my initial perception. It is too bad it wasn't recorded in a 6 channel format because it could have been better but even with 2 channels it has now surged to the top of my favorites list. Her onstage performance and energy is unmatched and she obviously goes easy on the eyes.

4.0 out of 5 stars Try "hall" surround mode to bring out Shania's voice, January 23, 2000
By A Customer
This review is from: Shania Twain - Live (DVD)
I watched this concert on a Toshiba 2109 DVD player in 2-channel analog mode through a Marantz THX system. In the beginning, Shania's voice was overpowered by the band as other reviewers indicated. The sound was quite poor regardless if I use the THX, pro-loigc or 2-channel stereo mode. However, when I cycled the surround mode to "hall", Shania's voice suddenly came alive through the effect/rear channel. If you have problem with the sound, try some other surround sound modes on your system, you may find one mode that works well with this DVD.
