East meets West musically with fantastic results,
By S. J. Snyder "De gustibus non disputandum" (Various, United States) - See all my reviews (VINE VOICE) (REAL NAME)
This review is from: Shankar: Sitar Concertos and Other Works (Audio CD)
This is more than two hours of acclaimed sitar master Ravi Shankar grooving with a variety of Western orchestral instruments in both classical Western and classical Indian musical settings.
The former includes two concertos for sitar and orchestra; the latter includes two ragas and other traditional works. Shankar is joined by plenty of heavy hitters. The conductors for the two concertos are Andre Previn and Zubin Mehta; Yehudi Menuhin and Jean-Pierre Rampal are the top classical music soloists to join Shankar on other pieces. And the creativity to write the two concertos? Incredible. And, the recording quality on these two CDs, including the degree of stereo separation on the smaller instrumented pieces, is great. For example, the Morning Love had fantastic sound, and separation, between the sitar and tabla. Made me feel like I was on a rug about six feet away from two real performers, just as my speakers are.

Amazing-A New Context for Sitar,
This review is from: Shankar: Sitar Concertos and Other Works (Audio CD)
This album is amazing. The music is gorgeous. Despite the use of instruments native to both the East and West, each is kept true to its own unique voice. No instrument is watered-down.

This review is from: Shankar: Sitar Concertos etc. (MP3 Download)
Yesterday I used about 3 hours to download the concert #1. The gift card I used was $10.00, enoug to download all the concert and the 'morning love'. After I finished with the concert, when I went to download the 'morning love' the system stoped. I sent an email asking the problom but no aswer yet. Today I noted that the last movement of the concert was corrupted. I entered again to try download this track but the system dont acetp the gift card's code number. Nice music but bad service.

This CD set is worth buying where you could listen to Indian Ragas played on Sitar in combination with major London Orchestras.
