About the Artist

Yashu, a talented musician from Barcelona, Spain, has played flute professionally for over twenty years. She studied classical music with Salvador Gratacos, 1st flautist of the Ciutat de Barcelona Orchestra. Between 1975 and 1983, she played all over Europe with avant-garde musicians such as Mirasol Colores, Toti Soler, Ovidi Montllor and Jordi Sabates. In 1978, Yashu traveled to India and met Osho. This changed her musical conception and she began composing meditative music, mixing Oriental and Occidental styles. Since then she has collaborated in many recordings and performances in the areas of Meditation and World Music. Her debut album, "Intuition" was released in 1993, in India. Then in 1996 she recorded "In Silence" at Nazca Music in Holland. The same label released her next album "Oasis" in October 1998. This album was one of the six finalists for Best Album for Meditation/Healing released in 1999, at the 3rd Annual NAV Music Awards. During the past few years Yashu has focussed on meditation and healing concerts performing together with Harida. Harida, born in 1949, in Chile, studied classical drums and percussion at the conservatory in Santiago and Rome before continuing to Spain to participate in Mirasol Colores, one of the principal Latin Fusion projects of the 1970’s. Yashu, the flautist of Mirasol Colores became his musical partner in many projects after that. Intrigued with Eastern mythology and music, he travelled to India in 1977, spending several years there, devoted to meditation and the study of Indian music. His focus being on learning to play santoor and tablas. On relocating to Holland in 1981, he continued performing Latin music and Latin Jazz, as well as Meditation music. Harida added studio engineering to his skills and co-founded Nazca Music in 1995, a label for World Music, New Age and Smooth Jazz. Two years later his debut album "The Gift" was released. Harida has played drums and percussion on various Nazca recordings and produced twelve releases for the label. He currently resides in Portugal, also home to Nazca Music and its studio.

Product Description

The inspiration for this album came through a series of concerts we gave for healing and massage trainings last year. We wanted to create an hour of soft music, which could be used during bodywork sessions and support the process of deep relaxation and inner healing. It was a great challenge to play less music, allowing a space of simplicity and emptiness within our melodies. We choose the name “Shanti-Shanti”, which comes from the Sanskrit word for peace and silence. It is an expression we often use, when we are stressed or nervous, reminding ourselves to relax, take it easy and connect with our inner peace and well being.
