Tana Hoban's photographs offer a wonderful way to "read" the world with young children before they read words.

This book is great for the visually motivated child - my son is 15 diagnosed with "severe" autism. The biggest challenge is getting his attention, this book did the trick! We talked about the different images in more detail than just the shapes, for example "purple house" and "soapy window" and "checkerboard shoes." The photos are a mixture of basic to a few more abstract but still familiar.
I love Tana Hoban's photos because they help develop our awareness and appreciation of the beauty of what is around us everyday.

I used this book during a shape lessons and it was awesome. The students really got into the book, identifying the shapes and pointing to the different shapes in the environment.

This is such a fun book that teaches children to look around their world for objects and shapes. Another one my children love is 'What Is Round?'
