Many indigenous cultures practice shapeshifting. Native American hunters take on the spirit of their prey to ensure a successful hunt; Asian medicine men “ingest” a sickness to heal the one afflicted; Amazon warriors become jaguars to soundlessly travel the jungle. Those who shapeshift understand that all of life is energy and that by focusing your intent you can change energetic patterns, rendering a new form. Shapeshifting can occur on three levels: cellular--transforming from human to plant or animal; personal--becoming a new self or leaving an addiction behind; and institutional--creating a new business or cultural identity.

Since 1968, master shamans in Africa, Asia, the Middle East, and the Americas have been training John Perkins to teach the industrial world about the powerful techniques involved in shapeshifting. His groundbreaking book takes you to deserts and jungles, mountains and oceans, medical research centers and corporate board rooms to learn the step-by-step methods of this practice that integrates ancient and modern techniques to bring about profound healing.

JOHN PERKINS is the author of the bestselling Confessions of an Economic Hit Man. Shapeshifting and his other books follow his life and adventures after Hit Man. John has applied shapeshifting techniques to his successful career as a management consultant, president of a U.S. energy company, and as founder of The Dream Change Coalition, an organization that inspires executives to clean up pollution, reshape corporate goals, and form Earth-honoring partnerships with indigenous cultures. He is also the author of The Stress-Free Habit, Psychonavigation, and The World Is As You Dream It.

More About the Author

John Perkins website is www.johnperkins.org. His TWITTERID is economic_hitman. John Perkins has lived four lives: as an economic hit man (EHM); as the CEO of a successful alternative energy company, who was rewarded for not disclosing his EHM past; as an expert on indigenous cultures and shamanism, a teacher and writer who used this expertise to promote ecology and sustainability while continuing to honor his vow of silence about his life as an EHM; and as a writer who, in telling the real-life story about his extraordinary dealings as an EHM, has exposed the world of international intrigue and corruption that is turning the American republic into a global empire despised by increasing numbers of people around the planet.

I think we can all take away from this book some basic philosophical lessons, and an adjustment of attitudes that will be beneficial for most.

John Perkins has studied with shamans from around the world, leads workshops on shapeshifting and shamanism and has written several books. His approach is to use ancient shapeshifting techniques as a tool for societal as well as personal transformation....offer many practical exercises for learning shapeshifting techniques. Of course, this is a difficult and lifelong process and not something you can learn from simply reading a book about it. Traditional shamans are raised with a magical and holistic worldview that is very different from our modern technological, materialistic one. Shapeshifting is, however, an excellent introduction to this path and may motivate you to delve deeper into the subject. Shapeshifting is usually thought of in terms of transforming the physical body; shamans can supposedly (I believe it, but I realize many don't) literally shapeshift into plants, animals or spheres of pure energy (the latter is described in the book). As fascinating as this prospect is, the possibility that social institutions can shapeshift may be even more important. It has become almost a platitude to say that our present political and economic system is seriously damaging the environment. As tired as we may be of hearing this, and as much as we'd like to believe that it's all hyperbole, it seems hard to deny at this point. In addition to teaching shamanic techniques, John Perkins' Dream Change Coaltion works to preserve the rainforests and influence the thinking of large corporations. Projects of this kind are crucial today.

SHAPESHIFTING is a real gem! Author John Perkins takes us with him on an amazing journey to comprehend the methods used by shamen around the world to vanish and reappear, transform into plants and animals, heal seemingly inoperable medical conditions, and travel through space and time. He tells fascinating stories of how he overcame his initial skepticism and doubt to became one with a chair, transform herbs into a newspaper, and travel through time and space as a blue ball of light. Perkins describes a method for discerning between creating something of lasting value (dream), and creating something of transitory relevance (fantasy). SHAPESHIFTING also details a powerful technique for taking a dream that you wish to manifest, focusing on it with your mind and heart, energizing it, and releasing it. Perkins explains that with energy, belief, and intent... anything is possible.

In John Perkin's book, he brought back memories of what I had learned in a series of exercises from a Peruvian Shaman on my spiritual journey/quest in Machu Pichu, and the Sacred Valley. I especially like the journey (exercise) into the stone. Find a stone that has touch the ground. "Go into the stone and feel it touch your heart," as you hold it in your hand. Use it as a focus point, and "see inside it something that needed to change," either in your personal life or community. "Shape Shifting" is compelling, and inspires the willingness as well as the ability to create the changes you need and want. It empowers you. It brings back the internal voice of who you are! It shows you how you can make a difference through insight and reflection. In my reflection, I'm ready to move on, create what I want in my life, and BE a master manifestor. In true regards, Nancy [...]

After reading this book I believe so. This book is a must read for all activists working for the full potential of humanity. From Mr. Perkin's own journey into the world of shapeshifting we learn and see how our societies have shapeshifted in the past, a real clue for how to influence humanity on a global basis today. I learned that the most basic tenent of shapeshifting is absolute non-judgment and I am now convinced I can individually impact the future of our world.

This has been one of the most negative books I've read in the Spiritual/Mystical subjects. Incredibly negative, focused on the past and not the 'now', blame oriented, just not something I expected from a "spiritual" book.

This is a very difficult book for me to finish. Not because of how it's written, but the content itself. Rather then a book on Shamans, Mysticism, New Thinking or Shapeshifting, the author brings up so much negative political baggage. If you are thinking of this book as an actual book on the subject of Shapeshifting (either physical, emotional, financial shapeshifting, etc.) this isn't it. There are perhaps 20-30 pages dedicated to the subject of how to shapeshift something in one's life, or oneself... and these pages are mostly high level concepts with very little detail.

I do believe the author has made spiritual attainments Shamanism (including shapeshifting) and is capable of spiritual transformation in his life (both physical and otherwise.) I believe he can do well, and is in touch with his inner guides and intuition. But I also believe the author is a victim of influence. Sadly some of the great spiritually adept people turn into heavily influenced pawns. He's the pawn of those who reached him at an early age. To me, it seems he isn't influenced by logic, but rather by anything different and contrary to common thought. The entire book is an attack on America, the West, etc. Yet the whole time, he doesn't hold the tribes he visits to the same responsibility. Instead when they behave badly (such as wanting to kill his interpreter) he shirks their actions as results of the Western influence. All people (tribal to Western Executives) need to take responsibility.
