Editorial Reviews

Review

If you can walk, you have the first of two ingredients to increase physical, mental, and spiritual health. The second ingredient is the will to do it. Bach worked with physical therapist, and co-author Schleck...on a program that takes simple walking to new heights of health -- The Phoenix, Nov. 1998

Marilyn Bach has combined her knowledge of personal fitness and training with her passion to empower others. Her program, called ShapeWalking, combines fitness walking, resistance strength training and flexibility stretching. The book has been written with beginners and seasoned athletes in mind - there is something for everyone. Along with this attention to detail, Marilyn Bach's ShapeWalking will educate and encourage you to get into shape, have fun and develop an overall healthier lifestyle -- Melpomene Institute's On the Move, Summer 1998

Marilyn Bach is the dynamo behind this easy-to-follow guidebook to improved fitness and life-enjoyment. She will help you make the most of your walking, adding strength and stretch for a well-rounded program that will enhance your life. Anyone can do it at any pace. Great for beginners, also those wanting to spice up their routine. Sound advice and clear follow-along pictures ensure a safe, effective workout -- Junonia, Fall 1998

Marilyn Bach knows the score, she doesn't miss a note. It's all there: more than 100 photos, progress charts, and a choice of three workouts. Bach takes you by the hand through flexibility stretching to increase your range of motion; resistance-strength training with non-latex bands to build muscle; fitness walking, the aerobic heart-healthy component, as she terms it... .

The anti-osteoporosis workouts were among the best I've come across of many books I've studied that touch on this dreaded affliction which hits not only women, as many suppose, but older men, too. Bach's workouts are designed to strengthen the major muscles of the upper and lower body, plus strengthen the specific bones most affected by osteoporosis. - It's a handsome book, well done.... -- Fifty Plus Fitness Association Bulletin, Volume 3 1998

From the Author

'If you haven't got your health, you haven't got anything.' I was faced with a life threatening medical complication in 1995 as a result of routine surgery. I spent most of 1996 in and out of hospitals, back and forth, to be seen by multiple specialists, all of whom are stunned that I am in fact still here. I wasn't supposed to have survived this ordeal. My saving grace was the healthy life style I lead in previous years. The doctors and specialists attributed my survival to a life long commitment to exercise, and as I returned to health, I examined my life and what I wished to offer the world. I really wanted to give something back.

During my long convalescence, I landed on Lorie Schleck's physical therapy table. We spent many of those sessions discussing fitness. Entertwining our areas of expertise, we agreed that only a three part program, containing heart healthy exercise, resistance training and stretching, would give people the "full package" needed for health and fitness. During my physical therapy sessions, our new fitness program ShapeWalking , was born.

5.0 out of 5 stars A fun and comprehensive book that anyone can follow., October 2, 1999
By A Customer
This review is from: Shapewalking: Six Easy Steps to a Healthier Life (Paperback)
This book covers everything you need to get started towards a healthier lifestyle. The three parts to "Shapewalking" is the most complete I've seen. With the easy to follow pictures and text, made this book unintimidating. The bands with the different strengths are great! They are also compact enough that I can take them with me anywhere. So if you want a book that will help you stay with a wonderful walking, strength and flexibilty training this is the book for you!

4.0 out of 5 stars Real advice for real people, July 15, 1999
This review is from: Shapewalking: Six Easy Steps to a Healthier Life (Paperback)
If you are like me you know you don't look like the women in those Bally commercials. So it is difficult to relate to what they are doing...all those super models in the tight fitting clothing. Dr. Bach has put together a real exercise book for real people in the real world. It speaks to you and it really works. It is easy to read, easy to follow and you know you are not getting a bunch of hype. Well Done Dr. Bach.
