Editorial Reviews

BEN MARCUS, SURFER

SHAPING 101 "Prolific Hawaiin foam carver John Carper provides knowledgeable humorous narration s he goes step by step through the process of turning a rough blank into a refined foil. He starts with a description of the various tools, stresses saftey, then shows that shaping is a combination of exact measurment, educated guesses and experience. Carper's instruction is as sure as his planing skills, the sound and video are clean and the graphics are first class. This is a professional effort, enhanced by hot surfing by Shane Dorian, Adam Replogle, Chris Gallagher, and other JC riders putting his foils to the test. Should you get a copy? Yes, every surfer should see it at least once.

5.0 out of 5 stars The only video to have for shaping, literally!, September 13, 2000
This review is from: "Shaping 101 with John Carper" [VHS] (VHS Tape)
As my title explains, there is no one else out there who put out a surfboard shaping video on the market except for John Carper. Fortunateley, the video is an excellent resource for learnig how to shape surfboards for the first time. He explains everything step by step from begining to end. His particular attention to detail is evident throughout the entire video as he explains, and demonstrates his shaping techniques and theories surrounding the many designs for different suring enviorments. If I did not know anything about surfing and watched the video, I probably would still enjoy it. There are some clips of surfing footage with the different surfboards JC designed which keeps you glued to the tv. Great music too.
