Editorial Reviews

On her first solo recording, Sharon Gannon, co-founder of the Jivamukti Yoga Method, offers a personal and loving rendition of seven timeless mantras. Essential tools for a yogi, mantras serve as medicine for the body, mind and spirit, freeing our thoughts and bringing us in closer connection to ourselves and the natural world around us. Sharanam translates from Sanskrit as "refuge." These chants -- graced with seductive rhythms, tasteful electronic treatments and Gannon's soulful, impassioned voice -- will surely lead you to the sanctuary of your heart.

Format:Audio CD
You know how some songs can be addictive and you repeat often in
Your head the lyrics of sometimes fairly silly songs?
Well here you get that kind of addiction but to sacred mantras
Which through constant repetition set into your micro cells and
Your DNA , which over time through your own
Sound body purify the thoughts and actions of your
Daily life.
It's the next generation of pop music with a
Meaning that benefits all beings.
Sharon's voice and melodies are heart opening.
Ferenz Kallos her partner in the project is a genius of music.

5.0 out of 5 stars ~*~ A profound addition to your Yoga CD Collection! ~*~ October 27, 2010
Format:Audio CD
As a yoga teacher - the mind easily becomes absorbed in sound. Sharanam is a magical, mystical, transformative album infused with the vibrations of one of my beloved teachers, Sharon Gannon. Infants, animals, all beings - enjoy listening to music. When the mind is fully concentrated on anything there arises a feeling of inner bliss. In Nada Yoga, we learn that the source of the sound may be external or internal. The sound may be "gross" or "subtle." That is, it may be "struck" out loud (Sanskrit: "ahat"), as from a voice or musical instrument; or "unstruck" and outwardly silent (Sanskrit: "anahat"), arising inwardly as from the subtle currents of energy or prana moving throughout the body.

Sharanam concentrates on these finer and deeper sounds, as well as vocals, moving us from outer to inner realm, moving our awareness from outer to inner sounds (Sanskrit: "nadam"), while all the time gently easing the mind into relaxed concentration and focus. This is a highly enjoyable form of internal meditation and it's relatively effortless: as we meditate, our entire being, every cell and atom, is being purified and balanced by the sounds that you are focusing on. Remember, whatever you pay attention to, you become. "Where you put your treasure, there you shall also find your heart." Therefore it is very important that you choose positive and enlightening music and sounds for practice, Sharanam graces my students and myself with this light. No matter where we are in the world, Sharanam keeps our teachers always within us. And for that I am eternally grateful. ~*~ Om & Prem. Pranava.

5.0 out of 5 stars Voice of the Divine May 5, 2010
Format:Audio CD
Sharon Gannon channels the Goddess directly with her beautiful voice, and you can't miss David Life singing backup. A must-have for any serious Bhakta.

5.0 out of 5 stars a magical incantation for peace July 15, 2010
By avalove
Format:Audio CD
This album is an incantation for your body, mind, and spirit, to move from one state of bliss to another. I put OM SHANTI on repeat and play it while I sleep. It creates a universe in which one can float, and dream in, creating a vibes that elevate and bring deep peace to the listener. I even keep it on repeat when I leave the house-and it transforms my home into an enchanted forest of sweet and beautiful beings, fairies, flowers and trees, filled with the deep notion of feeling connected to all beings and all things. When I come home, my house is enchanted, I am enchanted, just like this album, and just like it's creator, Sharon Gannon. All this, with just one press of the play button-this is not to be missed, a must do album!

5.0 out of 5 stars Stirs the emotional body June 3, 2010
Format:Audio CD
In reference to the track "Guruji" a friend said to me, "The first time I heard this song I burst into joyful tears." For me, she hit the proverbial nail on the head --- Sharonji's love for all beings shines through on every track. It's a beautiful gift. Om shantih.

Sharon Gannon's latest album Sharanam is gorgeous and exhilarating. The mood is playful at times and deep at times, and actually sometimes both. I highly recommend this album.

I absolutely LOVE this album!! I've been playing just about everyday since I purchased it. The first time I heard the track "Guruji" I wanted it, but a the time the album was not finished. Now I can play the song over and over to my heart's content! All the songs on this album fill me with so much joy and emotion. I just can't stop signing along!

5.0 out of 5 stars Highly Recommended! September 27, 2010
By Heather
Format:MP3 Music
Sharon Gannon's new album, Sharanam, is almost impossible to classify. When I first listened to it I thought, "Oh, it's world beat with a yoga slant. But kinda rock/pop too. Huh, weird." Then I listened to it again and I noticed the opera quality. Then I listed to it a few more times and found myself singing along and later found myself humming the tune of "Gurugi." Now I had to listen again so I could understand how something that at first I wasn't sure of had settled itself into my mind so firmly. I listened again and again, liking the CD more and more. I played the CD in my classes and it was well received. I find myself singing, "My guru is the truth, my guru is wisdom, my guru is ecstasy, my guru is shantih" as I walk to work, or walk the dog, or whatever. The whole album is catchy, heartfelt, inspiring and Sharon's voice is beautiful. Great insert too - all the lyrics are included. I highly recommend this CD.
