Book Description

November 30, 2009
Shards of Summer immerses the reader in the sultry feel of the Jersey shore. Alison Ginger Jones, now a respected pillar of her community, is accused of the murder of a decorated WWII soldier that occurred sixty years ago, when she was a young barroom dancer. Evoking the life of the beach resort in the 1940s and present day, Shards of Summer dances through the lives of its main characters, focusing on the intelligent but emotionally disturbed Alison. In the 1940s, Alison collects things—shells, sea glass, men—and gets entangled with a married homicide detective investigating a series of bizarre murders in the resort town. The unexpected final scenes of the story expose each broken shard of the characters’ lives. Passion and dark obsessions mix in this satisfying, sexy read with as many brilliant colors as the sea glass Alison collects. K. Jameson explores relationships, female narcissism, and sexual obsession in a hot, twisted tale that raises more than the reader's pulse rate.

More About the Author

Kelly Jameson is the author of DEAD ON, which Kat Martin, NYT best-selling author, calls "Brilliant." It's the story of a medical examiner being chased through time by the same killer.

Kat Martin also has this to say about Kelly Jameson's historical romance TO TAME A ROGUE: "Sizzling with sexual tension, filled with passion, an old-fashioned romance. Fast-paced and fun to read."

Best-selling crime noir author Ken Bruen calls Kelly Jameson's psychological suspense SHARDS OF SUMMER, "The Great Gatsby for the beach generation."

WHAT REMAINED OF KATRINA: A NOVEL OF NEW ORLEANS, Kelly Jameson's novella, was a Leapfrog Press Honorable Mention in fiction. "What Remained of Katrina becomes a powerful story of the city's underclass, the one seldom reported by the media, the one seldom visited by tourists. This is Jameson's third novel, and may be the best one yet." Walter Brasch, Journalist/Author

Z=mc2: TIME-TRAVELIN' ZOMBIES VS THE GARDEN STATE. "Z=mc2 is a wacky and hilarious slice of zombie goodness. Wicked and deranged, it's TIME BANDITS meets SHAUN OF THE DEAD with a big dose of just-plain-nuts. Highly recommended" - Jonathan Maberry, New York Times bestselling author of DEAD OF NIGHT and PATIENT ZERO.

Horrorphilia reviewer Gabino Iglesias says: "'Z=mc2: Time-Travellin' Zombies vs. the Garden State'" starts weird and finishes strong. The prose is packed with humor and there's an underlying message about what it means to be human that readers should discover by themselves. Pick up a copy today."

Her published short stories are collected in an anthology called DESPERATE, DISTURBED, DERANGED, AND DOUBLE-LATTED.

4.0 out of 5 stars A Good Read for Long Winter Nights, December 18, 2009

Kelly Jameson's Shards of Summer is a study in contrasts, with strong characters and a racing plot.

There is no peace after war for three soldiers who are unable to shake the maddening memories of military imprisonment. They remain friends, living in the same town postwar. Their personal and professional lives as cops and a professor are thoroughly complicated by the erotic dancer Alison, who could be a victim or a murderer.

Jameson's multi-faceted and intricate writing style strikes chords of both dissonance and harmony on many levels. The author's love of language and command of the written word are abundantly evident. Many of the passages could stand alone as essays; poetry plays a binding role in the chapters and plot lines.

(This is not your typical inspirational, happy-ending novel. Also, contains sexually explicit language.)

Jameson's prose urges you to read fast and furiously until you reach the final chapter, where disturbing truths collide to make a thought-arresting impact long after the last page.

5.0 out of 5 stars Sexy & Smart, February 15, 2010

This review is from: Shards of Summer (Paperback)
Shards of Summer takes you on a trip to the beach that you won't soon forget. Flashing back to the mid-1940s--the perfect decade for a gritty noir--Shards immerses you in that era's prevailing feeling of postwar disillusionment, a sense of female dominance, and a sultry atmosphere. Shards of Summer invokes the great pulp dramatists of the day, like James M. Cain, but Kelly Jameson brings a fresh perspective to a well-worn, male-dominated genre, going beyond character archetypes and revealing layer upon layer of female (and male) desires and fears. Sexy and smart, Shards of Summer shows flashes of brilliance.
