Most books get long winded and feel like they have to pad things out.

SharePoint development is a large black hole to most beginning developers. I believe that this book would have been better if there had been more effort with all the code snippets actually tying together a complete end to end sample solution. Very disappointed in that the book doesn't have anything about Web Template development.

If you were wondering how SharePoint works, this is the book. It's like having your own expert developer sitting next to you! Most books get long winded and feel like they have to pad things out. This one is quick, to the point, what to look out for, what to do. Just an excellent source for the developer strapped with having to get it done!

This book is definitly written for advanced SharePoint developers. There are hundreds of very useful code examples inside, peppered with a lot of tips and useful hints. What you pay for are words from the experts, not only a ton of code samples.

The book goes far behind the surface, and offers a detailed explanation on how SharePoint works inside. The following topics are covered:

- Accessing the API,
- Lists and Data Access
- External Data
- Web Parts
- Templates
- Application Techniques
- Solution Deployment
- Extending the UI
- SharePoint Web Controls
- Client Object Model
- Silverlight
- Charts and Maps
- IPFS and InfoPath
- Workflows
- Administrative Tasks
- Enterprise Features

This book is a must-have for every professional SharePoint developer!

Format: Paperback
As a ASP:NET developer I came in touch with SharePoint as many others did, through WebParts development. Digging deeper into the vast land of SharePoint's API I got lost and helpless. Though a couple books along with MSDN I tried to gather what I needed. Recognizing SharePoint as a platform was after my experience out of sight. Pushed through Microsoft's shift to treat SharePoint as platform developers can hook into I decided to get this book cause of the title close to what I was looking for.

What a surprise! These guys did a really amazing job looking into the API's secrets as well as explaining the basics you need to thoroughly understand what's inside. This complements the online help quite well, using several links where endless tables of methods are better than printed in a book.

This book has roughly 1100 pages, that means it's so far the most complete you can get. Carrying a three pounder is, however, sometimes a mess. Wish I could get it more condensed. Sometimes the language is quite chatty, a few more pictures could improve it, if this would be possible.
