I LOVE this CD!! There are upbeat songs to really lift your spirit and put a smile on your face, and there are slow songs for when you really need to meditate on how good the Lord has been to you. I was not able to watch Sunday Best because I didn't have any cable, and I hate I missed Shari Addison singing on there. This CD is wonderful. I didn't think I would like it this much. I especially love #5, Please Make Me Better...I LOVE that song because right now that is my prayer, Please Make Me Better LORD...it doesn't matter what you have to take away from me or what I have to do endure, just PLEASE Make Me Better LORD!!! This CD is a must have. I can't even listen to my other new CDs because I don't want to take this one out!!!

Her Best Is Yet To Come!,
By A music lover.... (Chicago, IL) - See all my reviews

In anticipation of this release, I didn't expect anything more or less from Ms. Addison. The anointing that she has on her life is immeasurable. To be honest, I've only gotten through half of the project, and from what I've heard, each track gets better and better and has its own distinction and certainly exemplifies her powerhouse vocals. She totally ministers full-force, providing a hint of indication that she'll be around for a while! Support this woman of God!

Forgiveness & Funk,

So, maybe I'm not the best judge when it comes to what is or isn't good gospel. I'm a non-religious (but, I'd like to think, spiritual) middle-aged white guy who's had no personal exposure to African-American churches. That said, I connect strongly to the music that comes out of them. Whether it's classical singers like Kathleen Battle and Leontyne Price singing traditional spirituals, or Oleta Adams and Take 6 (a huge favorite) praising God in a more pop-infused manner, there's a clarity and truth of purpose I find very moving and emotional. Shari Addison, in this terrific debut album, brings a funk/R&B soul element to gospel that I haven't -- in my limited experience -- encountered before. If contemporary Christian pop can be down 'n' dirty, this is it. In some ways, Addison reminds me of Mahalia Jackson in the way she grinds things up, digging deep into the material; she certainly sings from the depths of her being. Not that she doesn't at times display a softer, no less successful, side. Basically, she's Mandisa with an edge, if that helps. Look, if Shari Addison can make this forty-something half-Jew want to jump up and testify, imagine what she can do for true believers. Highly recommended.
