The best teaching tool on sharing I have found,

My son is 2, and Joanna Cole's books have been very helpful to his development. He has loved "I'm a Big Brother" and "My Big Boy Potty," both of which helped him with big transitions in his young life. So after trying a not-so-good sharing book called "I Can Share," by Karen Katz, I decided to see if Joanna Cole had written anything better. Sure enough, she had!
This book is developmentally appropriate for a child who can understand simple story books. My son is a bit advanced for 2, but I think this book would be good for any child between 2 and 4. It features a little boy who is having a play date at his house, and addresses the importance of sharing, taking turns, and playing together cooperatively. It is a happy, friendly story with nice drawings and kid friendly, simple language. My son loves it, and it's really helped him learn how to behave better at play dates. I am forever a fan of these terrific books!

I love all the books in this series that I've read so far. (My Big Girl Potty, I'm a Big Sister, When You Were Inside Mommy, and Sharing Is Fun) Joanna Cole has such a great way of explaining concepts to kids through positive, respectful stories. So far, my 19-month-old thinks that sharing is a fun, exciting thing to do, partially thanks to this book. She loves having me read this book to her over and over. I just hate that books in this series are so hard to find! As great as they are, Amazon should have a huge stock of them!

I thought my 2.5-year-old daughter would never go for a book with a pedantic title instructing her that "sharing is fun," but we have read this book more than 50 times (really!) since taking it out of the library yesterday.
The book presenting sharing in a non-threatening way: not every special toy must be shared, and your turn lasts until you are finished. This is excellent advice for parents, too! Young children should not be expected to share absolutely everything, nor should they have toys taken away from them when they are in the middle of playing. I'd love for all the parents of my daughter's friends to read this, too, because parents with inappropriate expectations make sharing much harder than it needs to be.

The best book about sharing,
This review is from: Sharing Is Fun (Hardcover)
I started reading this to my oldest before she was two. She didn't really get it, but the pictures and rhythm of the story kept her attention. I think it planted the seeds. As she got older, she did get it and we would read it before friends came to visit the house. It was a great help! It is fun, it is not preachy. We love this book. Unfortunately, she insisted on taking it with heron an errand and she lost it. I have reordered it so I can begin reading it with her younger sister. I am a mom, former child therapist, and former elementary school guidance counselor. I have not seen any better book for young children about sharing.

My daughter loves these books. I credit her potty book for training my two year old, this one is helping her share at three. My little one actually sleeps with these books. My thanks to the author and illustrator!

We have purchased several books on sharing for our daughter and this one was the one that we keep going back to. Unlike most sharing books which are preachy and more just descriptions of ways to share, this book teaches about sharing in a story format. It was much easier for my daughter to relate to the characters and we were able to refer back to the story when our daughter had friends over to play. The message in the book fit with how my husband and I wanted to teach our daughter to share. In the story a little boy, Andrew, is having a play date with his friends. To prepare his mom asks him if there are any toys he "is not ready to share" and they put those special toys away in the closet. Anything else left out is to be shared by everyone. When Andrew wants to play with the toy one of his friends has, his mother gently reminds him that he has to wait for the friend to finish. He is upset but then finds something else to play with until it's his turn. The author also adds some tips for parents at the back of the book. My only complaint with this book is that it seems to be out of print and is very difficult to find. If you have the chance I would definitely recommend buying it for your collection.

This was a good book to introduce sharing to my 2 1/2 year old and to give me some pointers on how to make sharing a little bit easier. The only thing I would have wanted from this book it did not provide was sharing with a sibling. This book helps a child share who is an only child on a play date at his house. My 2 year old has a younger brother and this book does not discuss this situation. Other than that, it was a great book my toddler loved and responded to.

I purchased a bunch of books on the subject of sharing and found this one to be the best. It is simple enough for children to understand and it is well illustrated and fun to read. This book promotes waiting your turn to play with a toy as well as putting away "special" toys before friends come over, so that there are no battles once friends arrive.
