Two thousand years ago, Banks argues, this same desire drove 10 biblical women out of their comfort zones in a passionate search for closeness. One man was the focus of attention for each of these biblical characters: Jesus. Banks (Love Letters to My Baby) pulls story after story from the Bible, inviting the reader to pause, consider and drink in the deeper message behind the encounters between Jesus and such women as the Widow of Nain, Mary Magdalene, the woman at the well, the bleeding woman, the adulterous woman and others. Banks, with great urgency, writes of the powerful impact Jesus had on each woman, who came to him with unique and desperate needs. Jesus, overcoming the stigma of the day, touched these women, spoke with them publicly, healed them, and perhaps most significantly, listened to them. Every chapter is brimming with the author's fervent desire that contemporary Christians understand the depth of Christ's love for these women. Banks discusses the Bible passages, offers modern-day parallels and includes application questions. While she successfully captures the moment through her skilled and empathetic storytelling, the "Getting Personal" section that closes each chapter lacks the verve found throughout the rest of the book. Banks draws too heavily from quick-fix questions that are similarly tacked on to numerous self-help books; a more appropriate ending to such an intimate walk with these special women would have been to simply close in contrite prayer.

About the Author

Vickey Banks is a popular conference speaker and the author of Sharing His Secrets: Intimate Insights from the Women Who Knew Jesus and Love Letters to My Baby. Her work has appeared in a dozen compilation books, including Multnomah's Stories for a Woman's Heart and Stories for a Man's Heart. She publishes a monthly online newsletter, One Woman's Heart, and is an avid journaler. Vickey lives with her husband Brian and their two children in Oklahoma.

Hey, what am I doing? Let's shout this from the rooftops and share the good news. Vickey
Banks has done a superb job of Sharing His Secrets in her wonderful new book about the
women with whom Jesus shared His life and His most intimate moments. I smiled, I cried, I
dreamed, I grew, all the while knowing that if they could get closer to Jesus then I could, too.
The amazing thing is that I have repeatedly read these Biblical accounts; but this time, thanks
to Banks's fresh insights, I read them with new and knowing eyes. My favorite story was about
the woman at the well. I had always thought that the Samaritan woman was satisfying Jesus's
physical thirst. Banks made me realize that He also thirsted for her love. Amazing! Jesus
thirsting for me. That insight alone has revolutionized my relationship with Him. Sharing His
Secrets will help shape your moments with Jesus to be the most intimate you have ever spent.

I had often read about Jesus raising the son of the widow in Nain, but never through the lens of a call to compassion as Vickey Banks develops in her book, "Sharing His Secrets." If you feel nameless and unimportant in this big, wide world, you need Vickey's book as an affirmation that you are named and known to God. Her book draws spiritual lessons from the lives of ten who knew Jesus, including seven whose names are lost to history. They aren't lost, however, to the Lord, who cared for them genuinely in a time when women were second-class citizens. Despite the gap of 2,000 years between our lives and theirs, we share their needs: salvation, compassion, faith, intercession, forgiveness, friendship with God, ways to love God, spiritual warfare, and spiritual intimacy. Vickey mines the few verses devoted to each biography for lessons for today's woman. Her concluding prayers and "Getting Personal" application sessions will help anyone, or any group, embrace their truths.

I was recently asked if I would head up a small women's Bible study. Even though my time is limited these days, I said yes! Mainly because I had just read Vickey Bank's book, Sharing His Secrets...and I wanted to SHARE!!!

Vickey Banks has done a marvelous job of sharing with her readers special insights from the women who knew and touched Jesus. And whom Jesus knew and touched.
