This review is from: Sharing Our Stories of Survival: Native Women Surviving Violence (Tribal Legal Studies) (Paperback)
This is a very difficult book to read because the stories in it will wrench your heart out. It is a tribute to the women who have been through so much and have still survived. One story in particular, that of Diane Benson, still haunts me. She not only contributed her story but edited poetry for the volume. I have no idea how such a remarkable woman resulted from such a crushing life. And there are many more, each with their own disastrous pasts, each surviving in the face of what should be overwhelming odds. I think that this will become a seminal text on survival for Native and perhaps non-Native women alike.
