The book begins with a brief history of the amazingly durable bicycle. The author then takes you with his son and him on a six-day 360 mile selfcontained camping trip on the lovely Outer Banks of Virginia and North Carolina. They find it quite a challenge, and vow to return to the mountains again with bicycles having some lower gears. About the Author
The author has been riding a bicycle for over 50 years. He got his first bicycle when he was 10 years old. While serving in Germany with the U. S. Air Force he enjoyed riding 10 or 12 miles out into the coutryside after work. The Germans thought it quite strange to see an American that enjoyed riding a bicycle, since most Americans they knew preferred to travel by car. Bicycling has long been regarded as one of the best fitness activities a person can engage in. The author sings the praises of bicycling and urges his readers to take advantage of the benefits of cycling for themselves.
