A great fret saw for guitar making,

This review is from: Shark 10-2205 Trim/Detail Double Edge Saw (Tools & Home Improvement)
When used as a fret cutting saw, this little pull saw cuts an accurate slot of just the right width kerf for press fitting frets in a guitar fretboard. A great addition to a luthiers tool kit.

Great like the others,

This saw always amazes me at how well and smooth it cuts with very little "muscle" on my part. One of my favorite tools.

I've used this saw to flush cut dowel rods after making furniture repairs. It's excellent for that task. The blade is made of good Japanese steel and it is sharp. It's nice, too, that the blade is replaceable. All in all, this is a good tool and a good value.

Please see my review of Shark 58-9018 -- have purchased several Shark tools (think I labeled these Sharp -- which they also are). You cannot go wrong with purchasing these.

FLAWED DESIGN, DO NOT BUY THIS PRODUCT,

FLAWED DESIGN, DO NOT BUY THIS PRODUCT! I was looking for a saw to cut some door and window shims flush. I purchased this saw based on the positive reviews. However, I am extremely disappointed.
I had read how the blade can come loose, but I assumed if I tightened the red retaining screw and was patient I would see success; no such luck. The blade would continuously come completely out of the shaft rendering it useless. The problem is the basic design is flawed. The blade has an open ended forked tongue -< which slides into the shaft. The blade is then secured to the shaft with a red plastic retaining screw. Because this type of saw cuts on the pull, the combination of an open ended blade tongue and plastic retaining screw generate inadequate force to keep the blade firmly attached to the handle, even using a light touch when cutting the blade comes out of the shaft. The saw design is so flawed it cannot perform its basic function, therefore I am being forced to return it for a refund, (my first return ever). UPDATE: I was finally able to secure the blade using a pair of pliers to tighten the blade retaining bolt; so I kept it. However I stand by my initial assessment, the blade retaining mechanism is flawed, and I do not recommend this product. The manufacturer should redesign the blade retention mechanism to be more like the Milwaukee utility kit's Quik-Lok blade system: [...]

I just bought my second 10-2205 saw. I just about completely wore the first one out. I like this one a lot better than it's bigger brother. I don't understand why many other posters have a problem with the blade popping out. There is more than just a screw holding the blade in.... there's also a round hole in the blade that accepts a washer that's part of the retaining assembly. Either way, I've never had the blade pop out. The cutting edges are extremely sharp, and there are too many uses to try and list them all. The two different teeth-per-inch on either side is also very useful. I'll keep buying these saws as long as they keep making them.

It's amazing when you can find a great tool at a low price. This saw holds an edge and cuts through hardwood like a hot knife through butter. VERY small kerf. The other user is right, it's a perfect saw for cutting fret slots if you are a luthier. It's an awesome dovetail saw. If you are getting into dovetailing then you will be very pleased at this saw's performance.

No matter how little force you use, the blade keeps sliding off. It is a flawed design--the blade does not hook around anything in the handle.

This saw is a must have for fine detailed work. I use it in violin making and it is my tool of choice for most cuts. The blade is very thin, flexible and sharp. It cuts very smooth with very little effort, just pull with smooth strokes and let the blade to the work. You can't go wrong with this saw, especially for the price.

These saws are very good for trim work. I have use pull saws for 35 years and find that they produce better cuts with more control.
