5.0 out of 5 stars Number one cost per use tool you will own., January 22, 2003

This review is from: Shark Corp 58-9018 Fine Cut Saw and 8-Inch Prybar Combo Pack (Tools & Home Improvement)
The saw is very accurate. With a single thumb edge on the center of the blade to keep it straight up, you can cut a perfect angle with this saw. Blade removal replacement makes it even more desireable. These are Japanese saws. The Shark company products are available in a lot of stores, so it is not a come and go product.
The thing I am really excited about is the small pry bar. I was doing a few odd jobs around the house. I removed some flaking plaster in the ceiling of one room, using the large flat although curved (fortunately) chiseling end. It did a superb job. Then I went into the kitchen and needed to replace the weatherstripping on the kitchen door. The flat part of the chisel made quick work of removing the old weatherstrip. Then the stubborn brad nails came right out using the other end with the pry-nail removal combination.
The unique thing about this tool, is that it is not anywhere near as large as the Stanley pry bar we all, or most of us use. Yet it is large enough to do the job. Makes it comfortable to keep in a belt pouch. It truly is something you will use again and again.
The price is an advantage also, if you consider the price of the individual pieces, it is quite a saving to buy them in this combo pack.
It is especially useful for someone who does trim work, but is far to useful in any number of ways, so as to recommend it too highly to any one service. Buy it, you won't be sorry. It will become one of you top favorite tools. Hope this was helpful.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great Combo of Quality Tools!, July 7, 2000

Al the Pal "Al the Pal" (The Fruited Plain, United States) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Shark Corp 58-9018 Fine Cut Saw and 8-Inch Prybar Combo Pack (Tools & Home Improvement)
Toolpig was right! I had to move an interior door so I sent for this set to get the prybar. It made removing the moldings a breeze. I was able to reuse them around the door at its new location. The curved blade will get under the molding with only a light "tap," and the curve of the blade will gently lift the molding, the load spread across its 2" width. The nail puller is great on those busted off finish nails - one "tap" to set the claw into the base of the protruding nail stub, then pry it out.

I have other Japanese pull saws, but the Shark seems to have an edge on them. The blade is easily replaceable - just push the red button and the blade pulls out, push the blade in until it "clicks" to remount it. You won't have to do that often if you replace the plastic tooth guards supplied with the saw after each use. They pull off easily perpendicular to the blade, but you will have to slide them along the edge of the blade to get them back on. (They look kind of like those plastic paper binding strips you used on a term paper.) The saw has fine teeth on one side (crosscut) and large teeth on the other (ripcut). Both leave a smooth cut that hardly needs sanding.

You won't be disappointed with either tool and you will save a few bucks buying the combo!

5.0 out of 5 stars Power tools for your hand, May 19, 2000
This review is from: Shark Corp 58-9018 Fine Cut Saw and 8-Inch Prybar Combo Pack (Tools & Home Improvement)
The saw is great. We all know they outperform all other hand saws. S0 fast and easy to use. Those old Japanese woodworkers really know their stuff. It doesn't matter if it's a fine cut or a rough cut. This saw kicks hiney! But you know what ? It pales into insignificance next to the prybar! I love this tool! You can't imagine how useful it is until you have one in your hand. All my other pry bars are gathering dust. The tip is so sharp you can easily slip it in behind delicate trim for easy removal. It makes a fine scraper for everything from glue to paint to concrete. The claw is so sharp that you don't even need a head to pull a nail with it. It will grip the shank like a vise. The design is much like the exhumer, but the other end is much more useful. Unbeleivable. I liked it so much, I bought 5 more so we would never be short on the job. Both sizes are perfect. Better get a bunch because your friends will want one too!

4.0 out of 5 stars Very good deal, December 7, 2004
This review is from: Shark Corp 58-9018 Fine Cut Saw and 8-Inch Prybar Combo Pack (Tools & Home Improvement)
This combo is one of the best and most useful tool purchases I have ever made. Somthing you might not realize you're missing until you have it and are astonished at how often you use it.

The prybar is a bit small, but tough and very useful nonetheless. I have used it repeatedly to pry moldings and window casing loose. It has taken a beating and never let me down.

The saw is surprisingly sharp (I rarely use the rip side of the blade, the fine-cut side takes care of almost any task) and still feels like new on the tip of my thumb after many uses.

The only draw back I can think of with this saw is that it doesn't come with some kind of sheath/guard instead of the two plastic rails which serve as blade guards. A small detail, but one I would recommend the company consider.

All-in-all, a great addition to anyone's tool kit. Highly recommended.

I bought because of other reviews. I have other regular types of handsaws. This is the first time I purchased something like this Japanese style.

It cuts faster, better, and more accurate than any other hand saw I have ever used. The blade is flimsy and takes some getting used to but it works great. Flush cutting with ease and went through a whole 2x4 in about 12 seconds from start to finish!

I ma impressed.

This saw is simply wonderful. I worked as professional in the last 27 years and I never used any better saw. Only 20% of effort for a perfect result.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great saw, May 13, 2006
This review is from: Shark Corp 58-9018 Fine Cut Saw and 8-Inch Prybar Combo Pack (Tools & Home Improvement)
I just returned from building for a week with Bayou area Habitat for Humanity in Gray, La. I took my Shark saw with me to the job site because I thought I might be doing flooring. I pulled out the Shark saw and the "boss" who had over 100 volunteers wanted to know how we got such a great smooth cut on the bottom of the door jambs. I showed him my Shark saw and he was very impressed. I used it all week and felt so badly taking it away with me that I left it on the job site and he is guarding it with his life!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! It is locked up in the "dog house" (tool shed) and only he will personally release it. He loves it so much that I am buying two more and will send a new one to him and of course I must replace mine, as I feel that my tool bag is not complete without your wonderful saw. It is SO easy to use and makes beautiful cuts. No tearing......great control!!!!!!!!!!!

Thanks for such a great product.

5.0 out of 5 stars It is what it is, July 9, 2005

This review is from: Shark Corp 58-9018 Fine Cut Saw and 8-Inch Prybar Combo Pack (Tools & Home Improvement)
I bought these items because of the good reviews and I needed another $30 to get the $25 discount on tools over $200 deal. I also needed a better tool to get molding off without destroying it. So far I really like both these tools. The saw is razor sharp and flexible. The pry bar fits nicely behind molding and the cats paw grabs buried nails easily. What I don't like is the pry bar is too short. The sharp molding tool end digs into your hand when you are trying to pull a nail out. I suppose you could just wear a thick glove. It still gets 5 stars because it is what it is. Nobody in their right mind would think that a tiny 8" cats paw would really work without any issues. I think it is a small, handy tool that you could carry easily on a tool belt for occasional use. If you really need to pull out lots of nails, I would get one of Shark's larger purpose built nail pullers.
