Not for us!
on December 10, 2013
I guess I'm going to be a lone voice of dissension here, but I really didn't like this vacuum. We have a Dyson Ball, and I'm not a huge fan of that vacuum either (bulky, scratched our hardwood floors, etc.), so when it broke recently and I saw all the glowing reviews for the Shark Rocket, I thought we'd give it a go. And with a 20% off coupon, the price was a steal. However, as soon as we opened it my hopes wavered. It felt extremely cheap - but it's supposed to be a lightweight model and it was significantly less expensive than other models, so that was forgiven a bit. Right away, I hated that 3 of the attachments couldn't fit on the unit. Again, it's supposed to be lightweight so I understood the reasoning behind this design decision, but I'm also the type of person to put the fancy attachments in a closet or attic and forget they exist. I started on the thick, dense, wool rug in our living room and instantly regretted the decision. I understand this is supposed to give you a "deep clean" but the brush roll was so stiff that it chewed up the rug (and let me tell you, if the house was burning down, I'd run in to save this rug, that's how much I love it). Morever, the brush roll collected so much lint and fibers from chewing up the rug it was leaving a lint trail behind on the dark parts of the rug. When I turned the brush roll off, it spewed fur bunnies the size of my fist all over the rug I had just cleaned. I sighed, and vac'ed them up. Then I went to use the attachments. Reading the reviews, I knew that the unit could possibly tip if you weren't careful, and so I held on tight and started cleaning under the furniture. It turned out that it wasn't tight enough because the vac reclined by itself and the brush roll shot out more supersized fur bunnies (at least this time it was on the hardwood floors). In the span of only a few minutes, I also had to empty out the tiny dustbin 3 times. I know people rave that it means you're getting a really deep clean - but in my case, I could actually see that it had shaved off the top layer of my rug. I ended up returning this, which is disappointing because we do need a new vacuum and for the price, I really wanted this to work out.
