I was surprsed that Amazon.com didn't provide more information about the actual tracks and artists on the disc. I did go on and buy it after hearing a preview of it on MTV.com and felt compelled to write a review. What makes this soundtrack stand out is that it seems amazing that the producers were able to attract these big name acts for a movie of this nature. Christina Aguilera, Missy Elliot, Mary J. Blige, Ludicrous, Will Smith (though he is in the movie so that isn't all that surprising), Sean Paul and the list goes on. Most soundtracks seem to feature perhaps one big artist and the others seem out of place or hoping to become well known after being featured on a soundtrack. This one is star studded and the tracks are mostly above average, catchy, well produced and simply fun. The best, and so happens to be the first track, is in my opinion "Three Little Birds" by Ziggy Marley and Sean Paul. A classic song revamped and made to sound as if it could fit in with today's crowd. It has the classic tracks and vocals of Ziggy Marley and Sean Paul's unique lyrics tossed in, making it surprisingly catchy. The second track, "Car Wash," is Christina Aguielra and Missy Elliot's collaboration on the classic hit. Aguilera has her great vocals and powerfully belted out lines and Elliot, producer of this track, inserts a nice little rap section. "Good Foot" is Justin Timberlake's new song. I didn't like it on the first listen but started to get into it a few times later. It sounds like most of his stuff; nothing spectacular but a good beat to it. "Secret Love" is a JoJo track and I felt that this was one of the weaker tracks of the CD. Some good vocals but something seemed missing from it and the track seemed to be a let down from the first three tracks. "Lies and Rumors" is by the group D12. You can tell it was made for the movie with references to some of the characters and situations, fish, sharks and all that. Still, it manages to be one of the CD's top tracks by pulling off being so fun sounded, funny lyrics and good track production. "Got to be Real" is the Mary J. Blige track with a rap section by Will Smith. It's a remake of the Cheryl Lynn song (she has a song on the CD as well. The dance and soul track by the name of "Sweet Kind of Life") It was okay but of course nothing beats the real thing. I didn't find the Will Smith rap all that great. More like a cameo just because he's in the film. "Gold Digger" by Ludacris and Bobby V. tops off the best of the tracks on the CD. There are some others such as a new India Arie song called "Get it Together," a dancey Pussycat Dolls song "We Went as Far As We Felt Like Going" and a horrible track by some group I haven't heard of named fan_3 called "Digits." It's a good mix of songs and artists, covering many genres from pop to r&b, dance to reggae and lots of stuff in between. There was only one or two tracks that really seemed out of place to me but I felt like it was worth buying since these are big artists who came together to put out a nice soundtrack to a pretty successful movie.
