I was surprsed that Amazon.com didn't provide more information about the actual tracks and artists on the disc. I did go on and buy it after hearing a preview of it on MTV.com and felt compelled to write a review.
What makes this soundtrack stand out is that it seems amazing that the producers were able to attract these big name acts for a movie of this nature. Christina Aguilera, Missy Elliot, Mary J. Blige, Ludicrous, Will Smith (though he is in the movie so that isn't all that surprising), Sean Paul and the list goes on. Most soundtracks seem to feature perhaps one big artist and the others seem out of place or hoping to become well known after being featured on a soundtrack. This one is star studded and the tracks are mostly above average, catchy, well produced and simply fun. The best, and so happens to be the first track, is in my opinion "Three Little Birds" by Ziggy Marley and Sean Paul. A classic song revamped and made to sound as if it could fit in with today's crowd. It has the classic tracks and vocals of Ziggy Marley and Sean Paul's unique lyrics tossed in, making it surprisingly catchy. The second track, "Car Wash," is Christina Aguielra and Missy Elliot's collaboration on the classic hit. Aguilera has her great vocals and powerfully belted out lines and Elliot, producer of this track, inserts a nice little rap section. "Good Foot" is Justin Timberlake's new song. I didn't like it on the first listen but started to get into it a few times later. It sounds like most of his stuff; nothing spectacular but a good beat to it. "Secret Love" is a JoJo track and I felt that this was one of the weaker tracks of the CD. Some good vocals but something seemed missing from it and the track seemed to be a let down from the first three tracks. "Lies and Rumors" is by the group D12. You can tell it was made for the movie with references to some of the characters and situations, fish, sharks and all that. Still, it manages to be one of the CD's top tracks by pulling off being so fun sounded, funny lyrics and good track production. "Got to be Real" is the Mary J. Blige track with a rap section by Will Smith. It's a remake of the Cheryl Lynn song (she has a song on the CD as well. The dance and soul track by the name of "Sweet Kind of Life") It was okay but of course nothing beats the real thing. I didn't find the Will Smith rap all that great. More like a cameo just because he's in the film. "Gold Digger" by Ludacris and Bobby V. tops off the best of the tracks on the CD. There are some others such as a new India Arie song called "Get it Together," a dancey Pussycat Dolls song "We Went as Far As We Felt Like Going" and a horrible track by some group I haven't heard of named fan_3 called "Digits." It's a good mix of songs and artists, covering many genres from pop to r&b, dance to reggae and lots of stuff in between. There was only one or two tracks that really seemed out of place to me but I felt like it was worth buying since these are big artists who came together to put out a nice soundtrack to a pretty successful movie.

The songs on the Shark Tale soundtrack are very good. If you like rap or hip hop music, you will love this CD. My favorite track is the hit song Christina Aguilera and Missy Elliot. I love it when these two talented performers sing together.
I enjoyed the song Gold Digger by Ludacris. I've never heard him rap before, but I really like this song a lot. Three Little Birds is a very cute song with Sean Paul and Ziggy Marley. It has a nice regaae sound to it. Mary J Blige lends her talents on the song Got to Be Real. I love the way she sings this classic song. It is a fun song that will get you moving. I'm not a big fan of Justin Timberlake, but he sounds pretty good on the song Good Foot with Timbaland. This track has a great beat, and I enjoyed it. I love the song India Arie performs on here entitled Get It Together. Her voice is so smooth and soulful on this song. This is definitely one of the better tracks on the soundtrack Composer Hans Zimmer contributes an excellent instrumental track entitled Some of My Best Friends are Sharks. This track sounds just beautiful. This is an excellent soundtrack to a very cute movie.

Pretty Good,
A Kid's Review

While the soundtrack is both fun sounding and relates to the movie, I would only download the really standout tracks. The Carwash Song was pretty good. It was also kind of funny to hear "Lies and Rumors" by D12, listening to thier album "D12 World", it seems they wouldn't have anything to do with this type of a movie soundtrack. There are also good songs by Will Smith, Jojo, Avant, and Sean Paul & Ziggy Marley

Shark Has Strong Bite,

Althought the hit DreamWorks film was constantly shadowed by Pixar's "Finding Nemo", the "Shark Tale: Motion Picture Soundtrack" is a total sucess in it's own. Working with a top roster of today's R&B and hip-hop stars (including two of the film's star's: Will Smith and Ziggy Marley), most contributing new recordings, the album is a total joy as it establishes a fun, bouncy party feel. On, another hand it is also a nice throwback to the classic days of hip-hop; when it was about the sheer joy in the music itself. Unfortunetly, only one song was released as a (very successful) single:
- Christina Aguilera feat. Missy Elliott "Car Wash" (Shark Tale Mix) A-. Mixing the original with clever new lyrics from Missy Elliott creates a blissful, fun track. Both artists sing the song with full conviction, and seem to be enjoying it as well. After gritty, dark songs like "Beautiful" and "The Voice Within", it's refreshing to hear Christina do something so light and enjoyable. There's no depth here, but music should be about joy, which is more than abaundant here. Many of the other songs on the album could have easily been released as Top 40 and Top 10 singles though. Notable selections include Justin Timberlake and Timbaland's "Good Foot"; a cool, slick "club song" which would fit just as easily on one of their albums. Mary J. Blige and Will Smith have a fun, catchy, and respectful remake of "Got To Be Real" which displays both artists at the top of their game. Strangely enough, for the second Will Smith movie-soundtrack in a row (after "Bad Boys II"(2003)), the former Fresh Prince has not contributed one of his own songs. His contribution is nice, but where's the "Men In Black", "Wild Wild West" or "Black Suits Comin' (Nod Ya Head)"? His songs are always good. Anyway, JoJo and Avant add more of a ballad feel with "Secret Love" and "Can't Wait" repectivly; two tracks which show contemporary R&B at it it's best; capturing surprising depth and softness as well. D12's "Lies & Rumors" is a song so goofy and ridiculous that it has a quality charm to it; almost comical to hear D12 tone down from "R" to "PG". Selections from Ludacris, Sean Paul and Ziggy Marley, and India.Arie ("Get It Together" off her "Voyage To India" LP (2002)) round out the rest. And as a bonus, a compilation of excrepts from Hanz Zimmer's score, entitled "Some Of My Best Friends Are Sharks", closes out the disc. Bottom Line: ****. This is hands down the best compilation soundtrack since "Moulin Rouge! Music From The Motion Picture" (2001). It is more than just a soundtrack to an animated feature; it's plays like an R&B hip-hop compilation; the kind of thing everyone can enjoy on some level. This is one undrsea treasure worth searching for

The remakes make this one great....,
By irnmtn25 (Colonial Heights, VA) - See all my reviews

This album gets 5 stars simply because of the remake of CAR WASH by Christina Aguilera and Missy Elliott. They did a wonderful job in remaking the classic song, and it is great to jam to while driving down the road!! It isn't so much the singing of Christina, or the rapping of Missy, that make this such a good remake, but the song itself is just....great! Another excellent remake was GOT TO BE REAL by the immortal songstress Mary J. Blige. Her cover of Cheryl Lynn's classic is so good that you can hardly tell it is Mary doing the singing instead of Cheryl! Other standouts include the Sean Paul opener and the collaboration between Justin Timberlake and Timbaland.
So, if you like great R&B, go ahead and give this one a try. For a pop soundtrack, it's worth the money!
