Due to an issue with my satellite dish, I didn't get to view much of Discovery's shark week this year, so I decided to purchase this blu-ray disc. Upon scanning through the chapters of the disc, I found most of the content to be reenactments of shark attacks, which I am personally not all that fond of. I find the acting to be terrible and cheesy. I was anticipating more educational and informational programs but unfortunately found these to be outnumbered by reenactments. If you enjoy these reenactments, by all means buy this. But if you're more into educational and informative content, you'll probably be better off with something else.

This was a show from Shark Week Vol 4, Sharkbite Summer, which discussed the shark attacks and media responses in 2001. The show was exciting, and the interviews and anecdotal information was quite dramatic. The show focuses much more on the attacks rather than on the sharks, so information about the sharks, the bull shark, black tip and tiger shark is sketchy at best. Other than the majority of these particular attacks seem to come from bull sharks, not much about the shark behavior is focused. The show was more interested in highlighting the media's own shark feeding frenzy, sensationalizing the attacks and ramping up the volume, making it look as if this was an uncommonly violent shark season. (It wasn't. There were three less reported shark attacks than the previous year.) And if the sharks were out to get us. (They aren't.) The show does highlight how this was unhelpful, and distracted from the truth of these incidents and minimize the heroism and courage of the victims and rescuers.

The lower rating isn't from the content of the video but the quality of the streaming from Amazon. About every three minutes or so, the video was interrupted by data transfer. I had to wait several seconds before I could get back to what I was watching. Most of the time that's annoying but when you're watching something as dramatic as shark attacks, that's really damn annoying. Netflix still has you beat on streaming vid, guys.

I love Shark Week and watch it every time it is available on my TV. I have learned a lot about sharks and appreciate that they are much misunderstood. After all, when we go into the water we are in their environment.

For those who are interested in sharks. It was very informative. Something to watch and learn about if you like to learn about these creatures.

Wow, this series has really gone downhill. I suppose there are very few 'facts' left that haven't already been covered & now they're just milking it. Jaws of steel consists mostly of shark attack re-enactments or worse - 'mockumentaries' which are so obviously scripted and artificial that they are painful to watch. Everyone involved seems to be so doped up on energy drinks that they can barely contain themselves, I guess the producers figured if they could convice the viewers that what they were watching was like.. OMG THE MOST TOTALLY AWESOME INSANE MIND BLOWING THING EVER!!! that we wouldn't realize that we were getting very little in the way of actual information. Another thing that annoys me is when they show the divers underwater speaking via their underwater communication equipment - it's obviously overdubbed and the divers are gesticulating wildly like some kind of rabid morphin power ranger. It's just humorous to see and drives home the fact that this series is being marketed to the younger, caffiene addicted & attention deficient x-treme generation. The awe and majesty of nature and discovery is gone. The only item I really found of interest in this set was one of the bonus features "Sharks Under Glass" which detailed challenges faced by keeping sharks in aquariums. The first Shark Week - even though it wasn't perfect (Anatomy of a shark bite?) was still a hell of a lot more entertaining and educational than this dreck.

this particular episode might have been decent had it not been for the distracting sound track.
i was expecting something more along the lines of most other shark week episodes....semi-educational with people talking
this was different
it had the same people talking but probably about 60% of the show they played obnoxious rock music OVER the voice track
you couldnt understand nor hear what was being said!
frustrating!
i was disappointed

Streaming was flawless. The actual movie is really good. They did a good job reinacting those incidents if u r into this type of stories...

This episode explores the validity that there are Great White Sharks off the coast Baja Mexico even though the water is too warm for them. They have some really good shark footage but did not prove they are breeding there. Going into the Shark Cage is so scary I would not do it but will gladly watch others.
