Funny as Hell. The kinda comic I wanna DO!,
By
This review is from: Sharknife Volume 1 (Paperback)
I picked up Sharknife on a whim unsure of whether I wanted to drop ten bucks for it or not....but I decided to go for it after I read a few pages and laughed outright! Corey's artwork is also very alive and fluid, and it embodies everything I had hoped to achieve with my own style (mixing manga, graf, and action). The characters in shark are hilarious, and one feels as if they're watching an anime while reading the book. It's a short read, but trust me, if it doesn't earn it's $10 price tag with cool points alone, then nothing will. It's the Pulp Fiction of manga esque titles! I'm really glad I picked this one up. If you've ever seen FLCL and like the art of the Gorillaz, give shark knife a try. I cant wait till volume 2 comes out, it's made a fan out of me. Hell, I'm even downloading the songs from Guan Gong's jukebox!. Why September?

All style, no substance,
This review is from: Sharknife Volume 1 (Paperback)
If all you want out of a comic is 200 pages of fight scenes, then by all means pick up this book. The artwork is fantastic, but I also like having a bit of story to back up good artwork.

I have to admit, I have a huge bias and love for anything Corey Lewis touches. His graphic, street art style mixed with video game splash and graffiti attitude just hits all the right pressure points to make my heart explode with joy.
Sharknife Volume 1 is by far one of best showcases of his work. It's fast, loud, and full of heart. You can tell that the pen scrawling this work loves what it's laying down. If I had one complaint, which I do and it's why I'm putting it down, is that there is often to much going on, and the flow can get confusing, and important details can get lost in the shuffle. But to those of us who are perpetually ten year old boys frothing at the mouth for that six month Dragonball Z fight, do yourself a solid and read Sharknife.

At the intersection of underground hip hop, punk rock, anime, and video games, you'll find the rising comics super star Corey "the Rey" Lewis (Peng, Rival Schools). so far, the Jewel in his indie comics Crown is the Ballad of Ceasar Hallelujah, better known as the show-stopping man-monster SHARKNIFE (one K please!). rather than pull a brain muscle trying to explain Sharknife, I'll just say that Corey exhibits a total lack of restraint in his fight scenes, which have so much energy, you'll forget they aren't actually moving.
Corey has recently popped up in a few Marvel Comics and on DC's Zuda webcomic site, so these early books where he really sits firmly in the driver's seat will be treasures in my collection once he moves on permanently to drawing the for the majors! If you like indie comics and tongue-in-cheek nerdcore entertainment, cop it! holla! -samax

Sharknife me in the head please,

I wanted to like this manga, I really did, but I didn't. The unique art style drew me in. In to this mess. The whole thing is written like a video game. A very lame video game. The art is pretty cool. The story makes me want to scoop my brains out with a rusty spoon. Do they sell rusty spoons on Amazon?

Good designs, otherwise lacking.,

I bought Sharknife because the first few pages seemed promising. However, the comic quickly degenerates into a flurry of incomprehensible fight scenes and a nigh-indiscernible plot. It is certainly pumped full of style, but take away the gimmicks and you're left with a comic that can be adequately summarized in one dull and somewhat confusing sentence. I lost interest and it seems the creator did, too...

I heard about this comic after reading a blog post on penny-arcade (a famous webcomic on the net), I was surprised and entertained by the pages and pages of unnarrated fresh style. It's a fight comic and you'll find pages and pages of just action from time to time.
I don't read many comics but I would read many comics like this. I'm eagerly awaiting vol 2. Amazon has it listed with a date but no preorder button.

One of the best comics I have read in a while, original, hipp and fresh, even more fun to read when you're wasted.
