THE BEST OF ITS KIND!,
This review is from: Sharks (Hardcover)
This is the most informative, detailed shark book that I have had the pleasure of reading and believe me I have read a lot of them. The book covers many different aspects of the shark, including its evolution, ecology, various species, shark attacks and the behaviour of the shark. It also distinguishes between what is myth and what is reality behind the sharks history. Overall this is a very interesting and educational read which should be a necessity to any shark enthusiasts.

Being a documentary filmmaker for the National Geographic Television Division,
and having made a one hour special on sharks, it takes a lot for me to rave about a book. I have a library of several hundred books on the subject. This one deserves the five stars. This is not just a picture book. It balances pictures and text and it rates very highly in both features. It was first published in 1987 and followed with a second edition in 1999. Dr. John Stevens from Australia did a masterful job of finding some of the finest experts, many of whom I used in my show. It's enjoyable and enlightening. It's format balancing spectacular photographs with just the right amount of facts, stories and graphs makes it a joy to read. It rates in my estimation as one of the top books for overall information on the vast subject along with "The Book of Sharks" by Richard Ellis, who by the way contributed to this book. |
