5.0 out of 5 stars Smart, powerful value
This attractive Sharp 308 model is virtually the exact same as the 402, 410, and 420 models. Its 1100 watts cooks everything fast, but it's surprisingly quiet when running. Stack your biggest food portions on the edges of your plate when warming. It also has plenty of cool tricks and tips, such as shortcut keys and you can mute all the bells and whistles by pressing a...

3.0 out of 5 stars Noisy But Nice
This microwave looks good and operates well, as microwave ovens go. What I wish I'd known: (1) It's noisy. Specifically, it's loud when operating and the door cannot be opened and closed quietly. (2) The keypad for setting time and power level is not intuitive or self-explanatory - requires reading the manual and memorizing sequences for different functions. (3) Food is...

This attractive Sharp 308 model is virtually the exact same as the 402, 410, and 420 models. Its 1100 watts cooks everything fast, but it's surprisingly quiet when running. Stack your biggest food portions on the edges of your plate when warming. It also has plenty of cool tricks and tips, such as shortcut keys and you can mute all the bells and whistles by pressing a simple 3-key sequence. It's bigger than my previous 1.0cu.ft. microwave, but well worth it. Whatever you do, this is like buying a new phone: READ THE MANUAL and everything will seem simple and make sense. I'm very happy with it.

Cons? I wish the START and STOP pads were larger. However, if I use my first knuckle I have more success than my thumb or fingernail. Go figure.

(3) Food is not always evenly heated, and popcorn will burn before it stops popping, unless the power level is reduced. This model is larger than most compacts, a couple of inches too big to fit on many standard microwave carts, so it's taking up counter space - my fault, should have measured for this before ordering. All in all, it does the job.

4.0 out of 5 stars Good value, plenty of even power, December 18, 2009
This review is from: Sharp 1-Cubic-Foot 1100-Watt Microwave, White (Kitchen)
This microwave is nice and compact, yet it has a roomy interior that will handle just about anything. The turntable rotates in both directions, allowing more even heating of foods. I have had excellent results in reheating leftovers.

The keypad is quick and easy enough to use for your standard time input of minutes and seconds. It is also easy to use the keypad as a count-down timer; just punch in the minutes and seconds, and "Timer". The one-minute button is just a single push; no need to hit "Start" also.

The "shortcut" features are extremely complex and end up taking more keystrokes than to just punch in the time. To use the "Popcorn" shortcut button, you have to punch that button several times, depending on the size of the bag. Some of the shortcut keys have been useful, but deciphering how many times to hit the button will require a lot of practice or keeping the manual handy. The "Power Level" button requires pushing it up to ten times to select 90%, 80%, .... levels.

1.0 out of 5 stars Stopped heating after 7 months, March 9, 2010

We bought this unit to replace a nearly identical version that had been in our home for ages and had finally died. After only 7 months of very infrequent use, the heat function stopped working on the new unit. It looks like it's working, but nothing gets hot. I guess you get what you pay for...

5.0 out of 5 stars Great Value - Very Powerful, August 30, 2009
This review is from: Sharp 1-Cubic-Foot 1100-Watt Microwave, White (Kitchen)
This microwave DEFROSTS PERFECTLY with no cooked edges. I've only had this unit for six days but I am thoroughly impressed. This replaced a GE that cost four times as much and quit working after only 2 1/2 years (and didn't perform nearly as well as this Sharp). At this price, even if it lasts only a couple of years, I feel it will have been money well spent.

1.0 out of 5 stars Died within a couple months, January 30, 2011

This microwave worked great before it died. Gradually some of the buttons started functioning only intermittently, which was pretty annoying. Then the entire keypad completely failed so the microwave is nothing but an oversized paperweight. I then looked online and saw this is a pretty common issue for this model. Buyer beware!

I purchased this microwave a year ago this March 2010. It was working fine and it just stopped heating food and it became more noisier and an odor started to come out of microwave so I just unplugged the microwave. It only lasted a year!!! Not good at all...

1.0 out of 5 stars stopped dead right after warranty ran out, February 7, 2011
This review is from: Sharp 1-Cubic-Foot 1100-Watt Microwave, White (Kitchen)
Product worked fine for the first year we had it, although the key pad did start to warp and tear on the most used buttons. Then, two months after the warranty expired (14 months) the microwave just stopped dead right in the middle of operation. Calls to Sharp were frustrating and less than helpful. Will not buy another Sharp microwave.

Good while it lasted, but made a loud rumble and quit heating after two years. Normal use- our last microwave lasted 12 years.
