Nice unit but vibration noise when operating. Bought 2 reconditioned units from other vendors and both were defective.

This is my second Sharp microwave; we bought it to stack over the Jenn-Air Pro Style oven in our kitchen remodel. (I bought the built-in installation kit elsewhere.) Like my previous Sharp, this thing is *powerful*. It cuts the cooking time listed on the instructions for most microwave items by half or close to it. The defrost mode is excellent. Having a carousel makes cooking more even. All in all, it would be hard to find a better microwave at anywhere near this price point or even significantly above it. *****Editing the review in Jan 2012 to add some longer term observations. Still powerful, still looks great and cooks great. The door latch has developed a small issue that takes a little noodling around to resolve. As near as I can tell, what happens is that after a large number of door opening cycles, the hinges get either loose or slightly "sprung." At that point when you hit the door release it won't open because it's not as solidly latched as it should be. The fix is two-fold: lube the latch mechanism with some spray lube--I've had good luck with Jigaloo and/or gun lube--and then "tweak" the door to make it latch better. To tweak the door, open it about halfway and then twist it slightly inward and downward. It doesn't take a lot of force--you're not trying to rip the door off the thing!--just enough to line things back up again so the door latch "ejection" will work again. Once I figured this out and tweaked the door, it's been a year since the last time the door refused to open.

BAD! BAD! BAD!,

Our first one showed up badly damaged and Amazon did a great job getting a new one to us straight away. The second one never worked, it sounded like a tank and then just died. Stay away!

Same failure of product twice; stay away,

We bought this unit when we redid our kitchen in 2002. After a few years, the metal piece inside on the right side seemed to wear away and the oven caught fire. We replaced the unit with an identical unit bought on Amazon (no criticism of them). After about two years, the new unit had the exact same problem: the unit seemed to wear away in the same spot and caught fire. In both cases, there are smoke marks in the same spot, on the inside right near a metal panel.
I am of the opinion that this unit is not safe and seems to have a design or manufacturing defect. Also, the second unit we bought was noisier and seemed to have some sort of mechanical problem, based on the noise it made when in use. If i can find another unit to fit the built in space and trim kit, i will buy that over the Sharp unit. I will also be trying to contact Sharp to see if they have any response to this problem. I will report in if i do hear anything from them.

The 530ES stopped working after a few years of use. We bought a second identical unit and the opener latch stopped working after three years of use. We like the unit when it's operational, but the quality just isn't worth the price. After researching the Internet, there are comparable units by GE for less than $200, so we'll give them a try.

I'm a fan of Sharp microwaves. This is my third one. I got my first in 1988, it lasted until 1999. I got my second in 1999 and it lasted until 2009. I expect my next microwave review to take place in 2019.
This microwave has plenty of power to heat quickly, yet the sensor reheat function is fantastic. Put in a plate or a bowl, hit sensor reheat and voila! perfectly heated food. I didn't expect this feature to work so well, but i find i use it all the time. Aside from that, it's easy to clean and pretty quiet. I'm not a fan of handles on microwaves so I'll recommend it as easy to clean as well.

Beautiful appearance, worked great for a while, then began to vibrate and make loud noises and finally "died" after a year or so of minimal use. Would not recommend if you plan to use it more than a year or so.

Great Features, Including Planned Obsolesence,

We have bought two of these. I love the features and it works well, but both of the ones we bought died within about 3-4 years. They both went the same way. We turned them on one day and saw flashes of light inside the microwave and heard popping sounds followed by that burned electrical smell. At least they're consistent.

We got our first Sharp Microwave in 1985. It was still working but we were having trouble getting replacement parts and the seal was breaking apart and we were concerned with safety. This is why we went with a Sharp Microwave again. We love this microwave. It have a very sleek and modern look. It is much more powerful than our old one and we love the easy quick buttons to cook with. I highly recommend this microwave for anyone looking for one to purchase.

Very Good Microwave,

This microwave oven is an almost exact replacement for my old oven that I purchased seven years ago. The open/close button failed on my old oven and I needed an exact replacement to fit into the exact opening space above my double ovens. This microwave oven is tops! Fast and easy to use. Unfortunately I fixed the open/close button rather easily so now I have two very good microwave ovens.
