The Sharp AL1250 digital laser copier produces high-resolution copies, even from photographs and illustrations. You can reduce or enlarge from 50 percent to 200 percent without sacrificing image quality. Sharp's AL1250 goes to work producing 12 copies per minute, delivering up to 99 multiple copies in letter or legal size. The two 250-sheet paper cassettes support printing or reproducing lengthy documents without frequent stops to add paper.

Solidly designed (about 56 pounds), the AL1250 is a fast in-house copier combined with a laser-quality printer. It copies oversized originals (to 10 by 14 inches), and reduces and enlarges in preset increments. You can also drop in a 30-page document and let the automatic feeder copy your work for you. An interior document tray is designed to save space. There is also a 50-sheet bypass tray with auto-feed capability so you can conveniently change paper sizes for smaller jobs without removing your main paper supply. The copier scans at 400 dpi. With printer quality at 600 x 600 dpi, at about 8 ppm, you'll produce high-quality black text from your PC documents, bringing a professional look to résumés, reports, and presentations.

At approximately 20 by 19 by 18 inches, the AL1250 requires a committed section of your workspace, but once you have the convenience of in-house copying for big jobs or small items, you'll save time and energy by reducing your running around. Sharp offers a three-year warranty. --Barbara Price

Great high-end buy for the home office. Worth every penny if speed is the top priority. Sheet feeder works flawlessly. Only problem now is keeping the kids away from it. Better than the Xerox (Sharp makes the same machine for them too) since it scans once, prints many, rather than rescan for each copy as Xerox does.
