Superb 37 Inch LCD TV,
By San Jose Customer "San Jose Customer" (San Jose, CA USA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Sharp Aquos LC37D40U 37-Inch LCD HDTV with Integrated ATSC Tuner (Electronics)
The LC-37D40U is a brand-new model. One of the local retailers had it on sale, and I was able to compare it against other LCD and plasma sets before buying. The picture compared favorably to a Sony 40 inch LCD, as well as to various 42 inch plasmas.
The set weighs about 53 pounds with table stand, and consumes 186 watts according to the back panel. Both factored into my purchasing decision, as I didn't want a massive set that consumed a lot of power and threw off a lot of heat. In my mind, less heat implies higher reliability, another plus over plasma. I do not have cable or satellite; Input comes directly from a roof antenna into the TV's coax connector. Picture quality on most analog channels is good to very good. Quality of most HD channels is stunning. Picture clarity, color and brilliance still astonishes me every time I turn on the set. I was surprised at how many broadcast HD sources are available now in the San Francisco Bay Area. In addition to getting 4 PBS stations, I now get many more PBS HD digital subchannels, in particular 4 or 5 from KQED. This alone is a powerful reason to move from an analog-only TV. I highly recommend this product. It is as good or better than other 37 inch LCD TVs, and sufficiently close in quality to plasma sets to make them irrelevant for me. The case is black, which I much prefer to silver. My only quibble is the face of the frame around the display which is high-gloss black. I find the reflections from this annoying, and wish they had given it a matte finish. The specifications are somewhat in dispute; some sources say 1200:1 contrast ratio and 6 ms response time. What matters to me is the appearance of the image. I do not see a distracting level of motion artifacts when watching basketball or NASCAR. Contrast and black levels are excellent to my eye. Also, the picture is in no way lacking in brightness.

Sharp Aquos LC37D4OU a good deal,

The Sharp delivers a very good picture and sound is excellent. The "simulated surround sound" works well. It took us awhile to get the color and brightness right, but once set no further adjustment seems necessary. The only concern we have had is between the TV and digital cable we cannot set up closed captioning. Both claim they are capable of supporting it, but between them it does not work. I can't tell if it is a Sharp or Comcast issue. If it is Comcast, then there are no complaints on the TV.

Started with this one and ended with this one after trying a Sony 2010 and a Toshiba Regza. Everything looks great on this set while on the others standard TV was unwatchable. If you watch nothing but DVD and HDTV you might like something else but if you still watch SDTV and the occasional VHS tape give this set a look.

We bought this product under some semi-expert's recommendation and it turned out he's right. We were told that Sharp has devoted much R&D in the development of LCD TVs and by far is among the best and that this model is more advanced than other Sharp 37 Inch models (in terms of resolution & etc.) Sony has good LCD TVs but is generally more expensive. If you were ever in the store comparing different LCDs and there picture quality you wouldn't even be considering certain other brands.
Anyway we are happy with this product. This model only has 37 Inch and 45 Inch, the latter is way out of our budget. So although we had wanted something more like a 40 o4 42 inch, we have to settle for a 37 -- it's not that bad actually. Also some Sony TVs has a feature with you can connect your computer to the TV so the TV serves as the moniter when you play video files on computer. I wish this Sharp had that too.

for the individual that stated before that he wasn't able to hook up this model to his computer, I can. It comes with the s-video hookup with which most new computers now come with it standard as one of the features. So unless you have a macintosh from the 80's you should be able to plug it right in. :)

Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)

I did a lot of research before settling on the Sharp Aquos 37" LC37D40U. Between price, quality, personal recommendations from owners and online reviews this seemed like the best set for my needs.
I looked at Amazon but saw it only through a third party and then all of a sudden Amazon had it directly from them for $1599 no shipping fee no tax (I am an Amazon Prime member). This seemed like a great deal so I ordered. The set came ONE DAY after it was shipped since it left from NJ and I live in NYC. It was signed for my the doorman in my apt building. The box was a touch banged up and one of the styrofoam pieces in side was cracked but the set was in fine condition. I had picked up my cable HD box that day so in about 20 minutes I had the set working watching HD shows. Set-up was really easy and everything worked easily. Overall I am very very happy although I realize with these types of sets problems can arise days or weeks after arrival (I am writing this only 3 days after it arrived). The picture quality is great and the sound is pretty good too. Overall I have no complaints.

Love it...,

I love this one... Started with a Samsung 32". Moved to a Vizio 37" Now, have this set. It is like night and day, the higher contrast and brightness. Dual HDMI inputs, built in tuners. Great football machine, with no ghosting.
Speakers are alright, but home theater receiver recommended. (as with any) You won't be dissapointed. :)

To Comment on 'Raisenhale' (sp) comments about Hitachi Vs Sharp Aquos 37"..,
This review is from: Sharp Aquos LC37D40U 37-Inch LCD HDTV with Integrated ATSC Tuner (Electronics)
...The Hitachi may look like a superior product to this Sharp Aquos, but it is inferior to me for one reason; the Sharp offers 2 HDMI, while the Hitachi has NONE.
Blu-ray and Playstation 3 fans take notice! (They both require HDMI.)

LOVE IT!!!!,

I did not buy my TV from Amazon, because on some big ticket items I like having the local contact. I love the pricure quality of this TV. I bought it for our bedroom because this is where my Playstation 3 is and one of our Direct TV HD receiver and the pictures could not be better!

We bought this tv specifically for video games. We have an Xbox 360 and a PS3. The picture is pretty darn good. I think I made a good choice on this one. I recommend to anyone looking for a good tv for gaming.
