4.0 out of 5 stars Step back into the future with this all in one! (4.5 stars)
Sharp has tried to throw in everything into this Boom Box. Yes it is a boom box lets give our props to the 1980's shall we. It comes with 2 tape decks up front. A CD changer that holds 5 disks. An iPod Dock that can read MP3s as well as WMA's.

Its kind of an all in once shelf unit that will play everything you throw at it except reel to reel, records and 8...

The CD player did not work! When we called the company, they did not offer to send us a return slip.
Caution. Amazon does not stand behind electronic sales and Sharp makes it difficult and expensive to return items if they arrive in bad, or nonworking condition.

4.0 out of 5 stars Step back into the future with this all in one! (4.5 stars), December 15, 2008
This review is from: Sharp CDDK891N Mini Component System with 250 Watts Total Output and Docking slot for your iPod Device (Electronics)
Sharp has tried to throw in everything into this Boom Box. Yes it is a boom box lets give our props to the 1980's shall we. It comes with 2 tape decks up front. A CD changer that holds 5 disks. An iPod Dock that can read MP3s as well as WMA's.

Its kind of an all in once shelf unit that will play everything you throw at it except reel to reel, records and 8 tracks (well they all will play if you have a seperate aux unit).

The sound is very good from a Sharp product. The interface is very user friendly and does not get too caught up in reinventing the wheel. There are multicolored LED's up front for you to adjust to meet your mood.

The bass is deep with good highs and midrange. I played a whole gamut of music on it and it all sounded very good. Even some of the lower bit-count songs sounded very good, well better than tape anyway.

The reason for the 4.5 stars and not 5 total is that the feel is kinda of cheap. Not really bad but not a higher quality either. Its more towards the top end and not middle. When you eject the tapes the doors feel weak in spots. It may take some moderate abuse, I just dont recommend it for younger kids, (which young kid has cassette tapes anyway :))

If you are looking for a solution that will keep your audio collection playing into the future this is a great stop gap piece of equipment.

Thank you for reading my review.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great sound for mini system, March 31, 2009
This review is from: Sharp CDDK891N Mini Component System with 250 Watts Total Output and Docking slot for your iPod Device (Electronics)
We bought the Sharp mini-system a few weeks ago, and really love it. The sound is wonderful, especially for such a small stereo. We can turn it up loud enough to hear in most of the house. It really shows how much audio has improved with digital sound technology. Set-up was easy. The speaker wires connect to the main box with those little red and black connectors you push to open, which is so easy to do, and the parts can be separated for easy carrying. It plays 5 CD's at a time, with various modes, and you can change them while one is playing. It also has a dual cassette deck which can record to tape or CD. We have a lot of tapes, so I wanted this when I sold my "big" components. I haven't tried the iPod dock yet, but it comes with 8 adapters so it fits many models. You can record from the iPod also. In all, this is a great deal for the price.

4.0 out of 5 stars Great sound, but cannot charge iPod while off, May 2, 2009

I tried this unit out at the store and was quite pleased with the sound. I wanted a unit with built-in iPod docking, and this one had the best features and superb sound.

It does really sound nice, and you can control the iPod pretty effortlessly with the included remote, However, one MAJOR disappointment for me - the iPod will not charge when the unit is turned off. When you turn the unit off (standby) it puts the iPod in sleep mode.

The workaround is to turn on demo mode, but that just scrolls all sorts of colorful stuff on the screen, which would be distracting while trying to fall asleep. Considering I bought this unit for my bedroom, that's not really an option. What a letdown! I'd have given this 5 stars if the iPod charged while the unit was off.

Other than that, the unit is great. great sound, 5 EQ presets and XBASS setting, 5 disc CD changer and dual casette, which, admittedly, I do not plan to use. The radio gets good reception and sounds good as well.

Setup was straightforward, as was using the unit. I did not need to open the booklet at all, except to learn how to set the clock. I would never have guessed how to do that - it's pretty complicated.

The unit comes with 8 dock adapters that will fit most (especially newer) iPods. They follow the same numbering system as Apple, so if your ipod came with a dock adapter, look at the number on the back, and use the matching numbered adapter that was supplied. You could also just use the adapter that came with the iPod, but the supplied adapters are easier to remove / exchange if necessary. And, the Apple adapters are white, while the unit's adapters are black.

It also has a sleep function, and a record timer function that lets you set a time to record radio programs to cassette.

Finally, there is a headphone mini-jack output, and a line in mini-jack input, which is shared with the ipod input.

In closing, my one wish for this unit would be the ability to charge the ipod any time it is in the dock. However, due to the sound quality, I can partially overlook this.

5.0 out of 5 stars I love this thing!, September 16, 2009
This review is from: Sharp CDDK891N Mini Component System with 250 Watts Total Output and Docking slot for your iPod Device (Electronics)
FIVE STARS!
This is the only and best stereo system I've ever had! I have a predeccesor to this product (XL-UH242), it is very similar, just a few differences.

PROS:
-5 disc changer!
-Little steel screens go in front of the speakers to protect them; they can be removed easily!
-Big o' honkin' Volume dial! Easy to grab.
-Very nice screen: it shows you the information about what you are playing and it is easy to read!
-Picks up FM and AM great!
-Headphone jack
-Line in on back; I am always using it!
-Subwoofer port on back! Awesome!
-X-BASS is really cool!
-Remote signals can be picked up from really good distance
-Plays WMA's! GREAT feature!
-It still works if you made your own CD
-Doesn't run hot
-Can set it to play stuff at certain time
-Shiny
-Good quality, the remote is great!

CONS:
-Short power cord
-CD takes a while to start playing
-Can't tune it, skip to certain tracks, or pause from the main unit; only on the remote(don't lose the remote!)
-USB doesn't work always, but that's okay

Overall, if you are looking for a stereo, this is probably your best option! Sharp is awesome anyways!
FIVE STARS!!

I'm very satisfied with this product. I think the product is a good value for the price and would recommend the system to my friends. I'm also very pleased with the seller and their quick response and shipping and would not hesitate doing business with them again.

4.0 out of 5 stars "Great, BUT...", February 25, 2009
This review is from: Sharp CDDK891N Mini Component System with 250 Watts Total Output and Docking slot for your iPod Device (Electronics)
Great system, sound, price. Wonderful combo of IPod dock, 5 CD-changer, dual cassette deck, and digital tuner all on master remote. BUT, the
omission of auto-reverse capability on the cassette decks is truly mind-
boggling; to control 95% of all functions by remote, but both sides B on
the tape deck require manual turnover. Somehow the ball really got dropped here--even the cheapest portable cassette players have auto-re-
verse as standard. Co-purchased one of these as a gift, and then bought
one for myself. Have had to apologize to both of us. Will have to remem-ber in the future to ask EVERY question imaginable, and then some.

1.0 out of 5 stars Do not buy -- the price is not worth the trouble, November 10, 2009
This review is from: Sharp CDDK891N Mini Component System with 250 Watts Total Output and Docking slot for your iPod Device (Electronics)
I have been looking for a shelf unit that can play more than 1 CD and has a cassette player -- a really basic one. Of course the simplest unit is the hardest to find out there nowadays. So I finally found this one, bought it in store for a good price, brought it home and put it together. First thing I noticed was that the buttons are not intuitive at all. Directions to set the clock is not intuitive at all. then the clock does not display well. so fine, I can live without the clock. Then just before it finished playing a CD, it switched to 'ipod' mode for no reason. I can't switch it back. I tried pressing 'cd', 'tuner', 'tape', and the ipod mode is still there. To reset it, I have to unplug and replug. I thought it was my lucky day so I exchanged for another one tonight. I put it together and after 1 hour, same thing happened (this time with 2 eye witnesses). I am going to return this unit for sure. I am going to buy my other choice...

The system is ok~however, I was disappointed in the
quality of the sound. It doesn't have the stereo sound
that I was expecting. The sound is the part
that I am dissatified with. The sound is flat and
can not be adjusted to the sound of stereo
