I had to replace an old Sharp calculator and this one was very similar.
It has performed great and has the same layout as my old one so it was very easy to make the switch.

Key layout is great and for the cost of this machine you can't beat it

A good machine for professionals. I like the built in clock.

Excellent replacement for the Sharp Calculator model EL-1607R. Almost identical in all respects expect for the two color printer ribbons. High recommendation for any one who liked the EL-1607R models.
Price is very reasonable, and quality excellent.

Good overall, no downside, older 1197 machines are more sturdily built and printed a fraction faster, but this machine is still good for everyday office use.

After trying several similar printing calculators, I decided to try a Sharp model. The EL-1197 PIII is a very good calculator. Compared to some of the other brands I've used, the components seem to be of a higher quality. Initially, I had to get accustomed to the different layout and key positioning which differs from many other brands and models, with the total key on the left side of the keypad. Instructions for using the calculator were not great, but pretty much what I've come to expect with most products.

Pros: Very well made, higher quality, quiet, very good print quality, cost compared to more expensive brands/models
Cons: Key layout can be challenging, larger, bulky calculator, no AM/PM method for the time calc funtion

Overall, I'm very pleased with the purchase and would be more inclined to purchase another Sharp product.

it came in a timely manner but it had no tape in it so by the time I got around to getting some and putting it in, discovered the tape feed doesnt work and since it is used didnt feel like I could send it back, so there you go, should have bought a new one.

This unit replaced a very old unit of the same brand. This one is much quieter than the older one. Also has many features, most of which I do not have a need for.

The Sharp Calculator works great. BUT I had to laugh when I saw the roll of paper that came with the unit. It was like a left over roll. It had about 2 feet of paper. You would think when you purchase a new machine that it would come with a FULL ROLL of paper.The Sharp company must be hard up for money to only give you 2 feet of paper. Retail price for a 150 foot roll is 37 cents (Office Depo) Using the retail price, Sharp saved about 1/2 a penny per machine. Here is a thought, If Sharp would raise the cost of thier machine one penny, giving you a full roll, Sharp would make an extra 1/2 cent per machine instead of lossing 1/2 cent. That would make better P/R to the customers like me.
Please don't get me wrong, the Sharp Calculator works great and was a good price plus no tax and free shipping. If I needed another machine, I would purchase one. Bob
