This unit is very good for those who don't need to have a fancy calculator. I used to use a pretty expensive graphing calculator, but for those who are in business, you almost NEVER use those functions. This unit has large buttons and has been rock solid in performance over the past couple of years. I just bought a couple extra since some of the other calculators I see coming out are junk.

I've had this calculator for work for 2 years now and am very satisfied with it. It's meant for simple calculations, has large easy to press buttons, and is super light. I also wanted to comment on how well the calculator has held up despite dropping it countless number of times, and yesterday, I accidently washed it with my clothes. After it dried off, it's back to normal. And even though I'm not testing under extreme circumstances (I'm not trying to crush it or anything, it's just a lot of little accidents...), I'm very impressed at its durability.

Well first off I love the fact that it is both solar and button battery powered. The battery will last a long time, because if there is enough light, which you don't need much of with this little guy, it will switch to solar, and save your battery. I like the design. It has a nice, clear, large display with great LCD contrast. The color scheme is very easy on the eyes. It's really light, yet very well made, very durable and only weighs 3.4 ounces! It is just the right size, yet has a large display. It's dimensions are 0.7 x 2.5 x 4.5 inches. It's easily carried in your pocket. I really love the fact that it places commas into numbers at the thousand, million and billion values. Which brings me to another great feature of this calculator it goes out to 10 digits, so you can caculate all the way up to 9,999,999,999, or the billion mark. Another great feature which you don't see on inexpensive calculators like this is that it will calculate your sales tax, which you can pre-program the rate in, and will add it to your tally. All in all this is an excellent calculator for the price. I am quite please with my purchase!

This calculator is just right for paying bills and household uses. Just finished using it today!!

I spent $5.99 plus tax for a replacement button battery for an old freebie calculator, but it still didn't work. Wastebasket. So, I saw this for $6.88 and added it to an order. Its very well made, has far more calculating and memory functions than I expected, and it is just an incredible deal. A couple of other reviewers lamented the lack of an "off" button, but its no big deal. Just be patient. Should have bought more than one.

I needed a new large-button calculator when my coworker accidentally dropped and broke mine---I do a lot of small-batch number processing as the budget officer where I work, I needed something that was large enough that I could pop the numbers in without accidentally fumbling and pushing the wrong key---which means i needed something with big numbers and a clear display. This is really very close to the perfect four-function basic large button calculator. I do wish that the display was tilted up, like some displays are (this one is flat, but the whole calculator has a kickstand on the back), but overall, I'm pleased with it. I really like that you can save tax rates in it and add tax quickly and easily! Plus, you can't beat that price! Solar + battery backup = awesome.

This an excellent simple day-to-day, around the house calculator. It's classy, of pretty nice quality, and feels good to use. Also, the comma placeholders, 10-digit display, and glass window are nice. Feels simple, yet classy. Also, dual power.

Make sure to read the examples in the manual carefully, as they show you by example some nifty features you otherwise may not be aware of. Some nice time-savers.

I liked this model so well, I bought three more and put one in various rooms around the house.

It is made in China, as are most electronics these days, but it would appear Sharp pays close attention to quality control in those factories. Wish more was made in America. Even the classic HP calculators are long ago not made here.

Oh, and the person who commented it didn't do math correctly, just doesn't understand how this and most other simple calculators work. As I said, reading the simple manual carefully pays off. I imagine this applies to all basic calculators unless you're already familiar with all their typical functions... even still, this one probably has a nifty little surprise or two.

the 10 digit display is a selling point v.s. other basic calculators.

The LCD screen is protected by a layer of hard glass on top, making it less likely to break when being sat on (yes, it happens all the time)

It has a simple "tax function". However, unless you work with sales tax very frequently (e.g. you are a merchant), I don't consider it very useful.
