HP-16C on Ebay......$200+. The Sharp EL-W535.....less than $15.

I have long sought after a decent calculator for use in computer science and networking and I THINK I found it - the Sharp EL-W535. The buttons on this calculator push in a rather weird way. It seems its too easy to push down and I sometimes double punch a number or miss it completely. I had this for around 7 months and it broke on me last week :( I might as well support my local TI then

HP-16C on Ebay......$200+. The Sharp EL-W535.....less than $15.

I have long sought after a decent calculator for use in computer science and networking and I THINK I found it - the Sharp EL-W535. It has HEX/BIN/OCT keys (they are 2nd functions unlike the HP-16C) but at least they are not buried in a menu somewhere. You can simply put it over into one of those number systems and do all calculations there -or- convert back and forth between systems.

Also supports NOT/AND/OR/XOR/XNOR. Certainly doesn't do everything the HP-16C does but for the money its a steal.

4.0 out of 5 stars Similarities to the EL-W516, December 6, 2010
This review is from: Sharp EL-W535B WriteView Scientific Calculator (Office Product)
This is a simplified version of the EL-W516.

It doesn't have a constant library or unit conversions, doesn't do matrices or complex numbers, doesn't have an equation solver, a polynomial root finder, or normal distributions functions.

Overall, Sharp says the 535 has 335 functions compared to 556 in the 516.

However, because of the reduced functionality, the keyboard layout is slightly simpler (Pi is an unshifted function for example).

You can compare the two on Sharps website at sharpusa

Both are great, just slightly different in their focus.

5.0 out of 5 stars Outstanding Value, February 22, 2010

I bought ten of these calculators as part of a class that I was teaching to engineers and scientists. The class was numerical methods and test planning. I received a lot of great feedback on the calculators and no one could believe the price paid was under $15. These calculators are very easy to use and the instructions are very good. Highly recommended.

I still have a sharp scientific calculator that I bought in 1987, definitely my favorite calculator. It works fine, I've never even changed the batteries, but it only has a one line 12 digit display. This calculator has a four line 16 digit (wide) display. It is much easier for me to keep track of where I am during a long calculation, because so much is displayed. Very Nice. And I would say the price ($13.42) was very reasonable. Only time will tell how long it lasts though.

It has all the functions I need. It is easy to use, thin, comfortable, you cab keep it in your palm and make calculations. The screen is wide and you can check the task on it. The only bad thing - it is on batteries.

Great for algebra, statistics or calculus. Only wish it was 4 lines instead of 3, but totally worth every penny.
