5.0 out of 5 stars Sharp Elsimate EL-339H List Price: $14.95 : Sharp has great offerings at great prices, October 23, 2006

Sharp's on-line store wanted $14.95 for this EL-339h Elsimate calculator and at that price it was a good value. I like the durable metal casing, the large 12 digit LCD display, the angled prop below, the large keys and the ample spaces between the keys.

The only negative is using this for scientific applcations with three decimal points or more. The answers are just not accurate enough for advanced school or work in statistics.

This is an excellent desk top calculator, great for merchandise procurring that needs no bateries and is missing one feature, a printer (with an annoying AC cord and the hassle).

This review is from: Sharp EL339HB Semi-Desk Executive Metal Top 12-Digit Calculator (Office Product)
The SHARP ELSI-MATE EL-339HB 12 DIGIT CALCULATOR has been around for
quite a time. Whilst other calculators get replaced by newer, (and
usually less satisfying), models, (or, perhaps worse, never replaced
by new models at all), this Elsi-mate EL-33-9HB caculator goes
proudly on and on! I've had mine since 2004, and never get tired of
looking at it, or using it.

I use calculators - a lot. It IS boring to use the same calculators
all the time...so I have bought quite a few different models. One thing that makes this particular SHARP calculator stand out is that the keys are wonderfully well spaced, and wonderfully far apart. Absoltely NOTHING is cramped on this calculator. Which means one concentrate more fully one's calculations, and not on whether one is using the right key or not.

This calculator has light grey keys, yellow keys, mblue keys, and one pink key, set into a medium grey background. Thw multi-coloured keys not only make iteasier to find the group you are looking for, (the numerical keys are in white, the 4 memory keys, and the "GT" or general total key, are in blue, etc.), but also give a nice variety in colours, (found in few other calculators), which adds to the non-boredom when using this calculator.

Along with a convenient 4-key memory, this calculator has a "CA", (clear all), key, and a "C-CE", (clear/clear entry) key, which are very convenienet for those, like myself, who do long calculations.
It also has a choice of a "floating" decimal, and a "3", a "2", a "1",
a "0" and an "A" place for decimals. As I don't often use anything but the floating decimal choice, I'm really not to conversant with what the other decimal functions do -- but I do know that, whenever I have seen such a choice given in other calculators, these other calculators, (as well as the EL-339HB, herein being reviewed), are truly quality machines. The same holds true for the three-position
"GT + Answer Check" switch, and the two position "5/4" switch. Any calcultor with these three switches which, as here, are usually placed between the number pad and the number window, bespeaks a truely quality-made, and professional calcultor.

The back of the calculator provides a "kick stand", so that numbers may more clearly be seen, at a steeper angle, when necessary. There are also 7 screws on the back of this calculator, on bottom, top, and sides of it, showing that the battery CAN be replaced, when the time comes to do so.

A "sign-change" key is included, as is a percent, (%) key. Sadly, however, there is no "square root" key. But most people have other calculators with the square-root feature, to be used if needed.

One other "feature" is included, (perhaps by accident), on this calculator. The keys in the top row of this calculator, although they are smaller, represent, (more than anything else I have seen), the true SHAPE of the blue-sapphire, in the ring that Prince Charles gave to Princess Diana, and that Prince William is now giving to Kate, (Catherine), Middleton. Most of the replicas I have seen are incredible, in that they duplicate the blue of the center sapphire very well -- but NOT its shape! Some are pointed ovals, and others are almost round! But the Princess Diana/ Catherine Middleton sapphire is a "rounded rectangle" -- a "cushion shape", if you will.
And the six keys on the top row of this calculator, ("Find", "Cost",
"Sell", "Mgn", "GT", and "CA"), are more this shape, (though smaller), than any of the Royal Ring Replicas I have seen!

Most things in today's world come and go. Restaurants. and department stores close, and calcultors appear for a while, then their manufacturers change the model -- or discontinue it entirely.
But things of real quality -- like Belgian chocolates, the music of Bach, Beethovan, Brahms, and other classic composers, old and new -- and this SHARP Elsi-Mate EL-339H 12 Digit Calculator. go on and on....hopefully, forever. Long Live Quality!

OK, I probably could live without it, but I wouldn't want to! I have used this calculator every single day (Monday-Friday) at work for the past 2 and a half years. It's a great calculator and it's on my Christmas list this year so I can have one to use at home as well! I love the Cost, Sell, Margin functions. The buttons are nice and big, so you can easily punch in and crunch numbers on the fly. It's definitely durable - no problems at all in that department. It's also nice that you can lay it flat or tilt up a bit if need-be. Really a super calculator - my company gives one to every employee on their first day.

4.0 out of 5 stars Nice Calculator, July 9, 2008
This review is from: Sharp EL339HB Semi-Desk Executive Metal Top 12-Digit Calculator (Office Product)
Nice calculator. I like the number display. It is a good replacement for my old HP. I prefer numerous digits to numerous functions. I just use it for basic math and therefore would not want a cornucopia of functions. Have not had it too long, so can not vouch for durability.
