It was time for a second air filter in our apartment to compliment the Rabbit Air we bought a while ago.Rabbit Air BioGS (model 421A - covers 600 sq. ft.) Ultra-Quiet Air Purifier w/ Germicidal Sterilization- Low Maintenance - Washable Filters!. We wanted to spend less and find something that took up less room while keeping the low noise qualities of the Rabbit Air. This filter succeeds with the low noise levels, a lower price, unfortunately is only slightly smaller but has the added benefit that the front lights can be switched off while the unit still operates. The Rabbit Air has a very bright front panel that lights up a room in the middle of the night. We would cover it with paper or cloth. This Sharp is very sensitive and changes the air speed more often than the Rabbit Air ever did in the same room. The results? If waking up without teary eyes in the morning is the test, both do equally well. The Rabbit Air now lives in the living room. We can recommend this over the Rabbit Air for apartment dwellers.

My nose are little sensitive to dust. So, I bought it mainly to clean flying/airborne dust in my apartment. It works great. Under the sun light or bright light, I can see with my eyes that the flying dusts dissappeared after it has been sucked in by the purifier. It takes some time to filter out all the dust in the the room depending on the fan speed. The filtered air from the purifier are blown vertically up. Thus, creating a slow circular air flow in the room. This I think makes the filtering process more effective. The low fan speed is soundless and medium speed is very quiet. However, the sensor are not as sensitive as I hope it would be. Thus, I just use the manual mode with medium fan speed, 24 hours a day. I like the concept of 3 layered filters. This enable me to wash the first layer filter and the second carbon layer every month. I was really suprised of how many dust were pick up the first layer filter. I definitely don't to breath in all those dust into my lungs.

Superior Home Appliance - Period!,

When you live with carpeting, like we do, dust is your enemy. You don't tend to notice it in the air unless you happen to catch the sunlight just right. Some carpet material is better than others as far as dust, yet air pollution is a major concern everywhere.
Add to that our body becoming more allergic to dust and air pollution as we age and we really should consider a good air cleaner as a standard home appliance these days. We have used three different types of air cleaners and this Sharp is BY FAR the best. Not only does it do it's job of cleaning the air of dust and pollen, but it does it quietly. We've had this excellent machine running constantly in our bedroom since we got it almost two years ago. I put it on auto mode and it just takes care of it's business without the usual fan noise most others seem to need to work. If the sensor detects a certain level of dust in the air it will increase the fan automatically until the dust level is reduced then returns to quiet mode. In the spring, I change to the Pollen mode and that reduces the pollen as well as the dust. Never have to concern ourselves with turning on and off, just leave it on auto or pollen mode. Before this I used to wake up in the morning with a layer of caked dust in my mouth - otherwise known as dry mouth. It was a morning challenge cleaning this mess out of my mouth and throat. Now, I brush, gargle and am down the road in no time. A truly superior home appliance we will not live without.

An amazing piece of hardware. Dead quiet and totally automatic, the remote control isn't really needed. Set the machine on Auto and the plasma clusters turn on if the air has been deemed to be unclean. After a few minutes, it reverts back to a low clean level rest phase totally automatically. Set it and forget it.

The other reviewers pretty much nailed the pros of this product. Here's a couple things that stood out to me;
It has been shown to use only 3 watts on "silent" mode. Yes, it's really silent. Heck, even on medium, its quieter than other purifiers on LOW. However, it takes MUCH longer to clean the room on this setting. On auto, it stays on silent mode, unless the air gets dirty. How sensitive is the air sensor? I keep it at the foot of my bed, roughly 7 feet away from me. On low, it detects my burps (and other smells) in a matter of seconds. It then changes settings accordingly. As far as effectiveness, obviously this product is great. For the price, it better be! If you're upgrading from a $50 air cleaner, this will surprise you. With this product, you really get what you pay for. Be wary of keeping it on the 'blue' Ion setting (emits both (+) and (-) ions). Anytime you see the words oxidize and free radicals, stay away.

Changed my life,

I don't write reviews ever but I feel this is important to say. Ive had severe seasonal allergies to dust pollen, grass/trees, ragweed, etc for most of my life. Summers we're terrible, I would often wake up in the morning with an allergy attack and could never understand what I did the previous day to warrent it. I saw a groupbuy for this unit on a popular deals website and figured I would give it a try..I kid you not in the year or so that Ive had this unit I haven't had a single allergy attack. Is it just a coincidence that my allergies subsided at the same time that I plugged this unit in? I hardly think so. This definately does clean the air and if you have allergies I strongly suggest you try it out.

This is an excellent aircleaner. While these units are designed to clean X sq ft, this thing cleans our relatively large 1 bedroom apartment (~730 sq ft) in about 40 minutes. Make sure to read the directions on installing the filters prior to turning on... Oops...

maintenance too high,
This review is from: Sharp FP-P40CX Plasmacluster Air Purifier (Kitchen)
It is now one year since I bought this for my mom - she loves it and says it does a great job, but for me, I wouldve bought something else had I known about Sharp's business practices.
I went looking for replacement filters today. The product description says no filters need be replaced for at least 2 years, but the "change filter" light for the non-washable filters came on and stayed on at 6 months (she has no pets either) About the only place to get replacement filters is from Sharp's website at full retail price and they want $110 for the hepa filter which is over a third of the price of the unit (thats $220/year folks) I just went and bought the hepa and charcoal filters from Sharp (as I had no choice) and they require shipping costs of $7.75 for the charcoal filter and a separate $14.25 shipping charge for the hepa filter even though I am ordering them together. So yes, if you dont mind getting royally reamed for the accessories, go ahead and purchase this. I am sure that products exist that do as good a job cleaning the air that have a must lower cost of ownership - If I were you I'd buy one of those. PFIL-A078KKFA PRE FILTER $14.50 + $7.75 shipping PFIL-A097KKEZ HEPA FILTER $110.00 + 14.25 shipping

pros:
- silent in low flux mode. - lights can be turned off. - you can find relatively cheap filter replacements in amazon. (that means by less then a new unit :) - filters are or washable or last 5yr. (really?) - timer 2, 4, 8 hour. - auto mode (air quality sensor --manual does not mention anywhere how it works) - fast mode (10min high flux, then back to auto mode) cons: - like any other brand, sucks air from the front and trow it from behind. - not silent in medium mode. very noisy on hight flux mode. - charcoal filter is a joke. only cover 50% of the area due to bad design. (it's several horizontal bags, the charcoal goes to the bottom) - some functions only accessible via remote control. i would give it 3 starts, but there's nothing in the market that deserves 4 or 5 starts... this is a good buy if you take into account the state the air filter market is. there's no serious product at all. btw, HEPA, as the term was used in the past, means that there's an air filter with aluminium sheets to force the air to zig-zap trhough the entire lenght. on the todays HEPA filters the air goes trhu the height of the filter. real hepa filter:[...] |
