4.0 out of 5 stars Expensive but good microwave for it's niche February 21, 2011
Verified Purchase
First off, ignoring price, this is a great microwave if you need/want something for a small room, office, apartment, etc. Let's talk about what it is. It's a small microwave. That's it. It's "Sharp" in that it's very aesthetically pleasing. I actually keep it in my office where we're not technically allowed to have our own microwaves. I work in IT, however, and this little beauty doesn't even look like a microwave. People think it's some kind of new server! :)

Other than the slick looks, it seems well built enough. The door seems remarkably light weight compared to the rest of the unit, but not to any kind of alarming degree. The turntable inside seems to be of thick durable tempered glass.

Here's what the microwave isn't, and doesn't even try to be...it's not a full featured high powered microwave. It's not for cooking Thanksgiving dinner. It's for reheating leftovers, warming up beverages, cooking popcorn, and similar small tasks. It's 600 Watts of power, which means I've roughly had to double my cooking times versus a "normal" full sized microwave. There's no power settings on this, it's 100% on or off. There's no numerical pad for entering exact numbers, instead you add increments of 10 minutes, 1 minute, etc. which takes a second to get used to. There's also no window as in a traditional microwave, which seems little off putting at first, but shouldn't really be necessary.

Now here's where the review goes off the traditional tracks and I really would like to know more. Sharp made these microwaves back in the late 90's and early 2000's from what I can tell. They've long since discontinued manufacture. There's still a lot of used ones going on eBay so there's obviously still a market for them. What I don't understand is how they're selling these new units.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great truck microwave January 18, 2011
Verified Purchase
I bought this microwave for use in a 2006 KW 600. After I removed the plastic spacer off of the back of it, it fit into the closet in my truck and secure the hard door with no problem. I believe that the plastic is there to make sure there is an air gap behind the microwave. I just make sure that I slide it forward a couple of inches before I use it. It has worked perfectly off of the 1800w inverter in the truck. You just have to add a minute to most cooking times because it is only 600w and recipes usually assume 1000w. I have run it simutaneously with my 5c Mr Coffee or my 2 slice toaster with no problems. I use it at least twice a day. Hopefully when it gives out I will be able to get another one.
Yes, it does fit a full-sized dinner plate. The reason it is a cube shape is because the magnatron is in the top and not on the right side.

4.0 out of 5 stars Sharp Half Pint Microwave Review March 21, 2010
Verified Purchase
I have had a sharp half pint for years and it has delivered service without fail. Just recently the door spring broke so I went in search of a reploacement. The Half Pint size fits my limited kitchen space to a T so I went back to that reliable product. I could not get a green replacement (matches my kitchen decor) so I opted for a black one. Still works wonderfully. My only issue is that the black one does not have a viewing window in the door like the green one. I never realized how much I used that viewer until it was gone. Otherwise the product is more than satisfactory.

5.0 out of 5 stars The microwave that keeps going... and going... November 7, 2010
I bought my Half Pint microwave (in red) nine years ago, when I started college and needed something compact for the dorm. This little microwave is still going strong! I have never had a single issue with it, and it has survived roughly a dozen moves and even been dropped once (which I don't suggest trying). If/when my Half Pint ever kicks the bucket, I'll buy another right away.

5.0 out of 5 stars Just the ticket February 6, 2011

I love this mighty midget of a microwave oven. It's a 14 inch cube that fits in small spaces on the counter top, has a easy to use interface, has two buttons on the front: stop and start, and heats things quickly. The only thing that would make this device even better is to make it available in multiple colors. I would have liked white.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great Product, Great Service September 11, 2010

I was thrilled to find this Sharp Half-pint microwave online to replace my older one that had broken. I ordered this item on 8/18/10 and it was delivered exactly 7 days later, several days ahead of the promised delivery date. I must admit that I was hesitant at first to order it from this company due to the one bad review that was posted on-line, but I contacted them and found out their return policy as well as more details about this item. I did have some trouble reaching them by email at first, but sent another email to them with "2nd request" in subject line and received a response promptly. I contacted them directly by phone afterwards with some more questions until I was satisfied that this was the item I was searching for to buy and that Pacifico has an excellent refund and return policy. I will not be returning this item since it is 100% as depicted, arrived in perfect condition, and it works great! Pacifico is an excellent company; I would not hesitate next time to purchase another item from them.

3.0 out of 5 stars Limit expectations if this is your primary microwave February 18, 2013
I saw review after review knocking this thing, but many reviewers drop hints that they expect a full-service microwave - delivered - for $200.00. If this is your only microwave, good luck. A decent 1100-watt microwave draws about ten amps of power. Many frozen dinners (large lasagna, etc) require full power @1100 watts for 12-15 minutes. This means the Half-Pint, at 600 watts, is going to have double the duty cycle. Any manufacturer will tell you the longer the duty cycle, the sooner any product will burn itself out. Some products are not like that: TVs, light bulbs, cars. But microwaves, no matter what, are not built for routine long working times. As for the switches on the doors failing: Again, if this puppy is used for breakfast, lunch and dinner, doors are slammed because you're a tough guy, and you bought it solely because of price, it's not going to work like the $700.00 built-in at your parents' house.

I use this as a supplemental machine. I sleep upstairs, and keep it in the next room to blast a cup of tea or a frozen dinner for :30 - :60 seconds should it begin to get cold. I have another counter-top Sharp downstairs which is 1100-watts. That's where the heavy lifting is done.

Why review a 600-watt, $200-microwave (with carousel) as if it were an 1100-watt, $650-microwave?

So far, so good. If the s*** hits the fan, believe me, I will update this review. Or if it continues performing as well as a small microwave oven should, I may add a star or two.
