Amazon.com Product Description

Designed with convenient placement in mind, this microwave drawer oven can easily be installed below any electric or gas wall oven. Taking up the same space as other Sharp 30-inch models, its larger interior measures 16-1/5 by 17-2/7 by 7-1/8 inches for 1-1/5-cubic-feet of space, which can accommodate a tall 20-ounce cup of coffee or a 9-by-13-inch casserole dish. The oven's exclusive Easy Open system activates a motor to open or close the drawer automatically with a simple pull or push of the unit's towel-bar handle. Or press the "open" and "close" buttons on the Auto-Touch control panel for one-finger operation. The unit's front-mounted touch controls make it simple to select the setting or set the kitchen clock and timer, and its digital LCD display provides clear information at a glance. Enhanced features include more Sensor Cook settings and defrost options, expanded Short Cut options like "warm" for heating maple syrup for pancakes or chocolate syrup or fruit sauces for ice cream; and a new Beverage Center that warms coffee or heats water for hot tea or instant soup. Choose from two preprogrammed reheat settings, six automatic defrost settings, 11 variable power levels, and four programmable stages, as well as a keep-warm setting for up to 30 minutes, Minute Plus, a popcorn setting, and more. Other highlights include a control lock; concealed louvers for a sleek look; and smaller, lower drawer slides for better access to the top and back walls when cleaning. The 1000-watt UL-listed microwave drawer oven measures 26-1/5 by 30 by 15-1/2 inches and carries a one-year limited warranty.

5.0 out of 5 stars This is my FAVORITE kitchen appliance!!!, October 29, 2009
By
We installed Sharp model KB6524 in June 2009 during a kitchen remodel. Every appliance in our kitchen is new and this particular appliance is my favorite due to the uniqueness and convenience of this model. This microwave has exceeded our expectations in every way. One of the reasons we bought this microwave was that we needed a microwave that would fit under the countertop so our kids could reach it. It is also nice that the door slides open and I can reach down to lift out the food instead of having to reach up at face level and lift food out and down. I liked the unique concept of a drawer that pulls open instead of a door that pops open. I was a little concerned about reviews on earlier models that the auto open and close function on this microwave has a tendency to break. However, it seems that Sharp decided to manufacture this one so it closes with a button or by pushing or pulling on it to eliminate that problem. I was also concerned that it didn't have a piece in it that rotates the food. So, we were surprised to find that none of the food we have cooked has hotspots (note: I only use my microwave for reheating...not cooking). I LOVE this microwave. I had considered purchasing the 30" but decided that it was unlikely that I would need to put a dish in the microwave that was bigger than 24". So far, this has been the perfect size. It is even tall enough that I can put my portable mug in it to heat up my tea. Also, my lovely daughter did not know that you can't put metal in the microwave. She put her fork in with her plate. Surprisingly, the microwave did not arch. We checked the manual and it said you can even use aluminum foil to cover portions of meat. Not sure how they do it, but I'm not likely to try it. The microwave seems fine after the fork episode. This microwave also has programmable features such as softening ice cream. It asks what size of ice cream then sets the time as appropriate. It's a nice feature but I'm not usually softening a whole tub of ice cream. Just a portion of a tub. One other feature I use frequently, pushing the power button after closing the drawer will turn on the microwave in one minute increments. As an example, pushing the button 3 times will equate to 3 minutes. This is a pricey microwave but has been well worth the expense in our experience. I highly recommend this microwave!

2.0 out of 5 stars Great concept; Questionable execution, July 6, 2010

H.M.M. (Hershey, PA USA) - See all my reviews
Purchased/installed this model Sharp microwave 11 months ago. Didn't want an over-the-range/hood type microwave and didn't want one sitting on the countertop. We really like the overall design, but...

We have had four service calls in less than a year. Three were when the motorized drawer open/close mechanism failed and had to be repaired. The fourth call I'll describe shortly.

This microwave does not have turntable, but does have a internal "stirrer" (can't see it; it's a perforated disk that rotates behind the inside top panel) meant to distribute the energy and provide even cooking. Despite this it still cooks unevenly. We purchased an after-market wind-up turntable (Micro-Go-Round; about $25; works fine) to use when we need to heat something evenly (vs. heating water, etc.). The fourth service call was when this "stirrer" began rubbing against the top interior of the oven. For some reason it caused a fairly significant arc, burned a hole in the top interior, and sprayed a few bits of molten metal inside the oven.

A $700+ microwave should be as reliable and perform its basic function (heating/cooking food reliably and evenly) at least as well as a $150 one. Sadly, this one does not. Despite its failings we still love the drawer design. However, Sharp needs get its quality control act together and correct the design failings of this product. I'm about to (grudgingly) buy an extended warranty, as I have no confidence we won't continue to have problems with this product.
