Book Description

Naive? Crazy? Kim Foster had no idea what she was getting into when she agreed to make meatballs in her daughter’s Pre-K class in an East Harlem public school.

That day, she looked up and found 20 four-year-olds covered in raw meat. A grated Parmesan fight broke out. The back of the classroom looked like it was covered in snow. She was pretty sure the teacher would never ask her back.

But by some miracle she did.

This book is the result—a school year’s worth of recipes, and the hilarious stories of the full-body-contact-sport that is cooking with little kids.

Kim, great job! I loved reading about it on your blog and this is masterful. You are one brave and fearless soul and you made a huge difference in the lives of those children and their families. We parents should be so lucky as to have you in our children's classrooms. I've missed you on your blog' you always remind me that it's worth making a big kitchen mess in the name of feeding my family and it's fun, too. Thank you my friend :)

5.0 out of 5 stars Sharp Knives=Sharp wit March 10, 2013
This is another funny, thoughtful and unflinchingly honest accounting from Kim Foster. Be prepared to guffaw, cry and wince a little at this witty telling of a year teaching "cooking" to 4 year olds armed with good intentions, and one hot plate.

There are a million unknowns and no definitive answers when raising a kid, let alone two kids, let alone two girls. So I know my experiences won't exactly mirror Kim's, but she does two things with every piece of writing. 1. Tells a beautiful, truthful, perhaps painfully truthful story of raising her daughters in a world of good food. 2. Makes me feel a little better, and also makes me want to push my boundaries, in raising my two girls with good food. That second point may be exclusive to me, but the first is definitely not and is more than enough reason for every person to want to read her wonderful stories.

5.0 out of 5 stars I laughed, I cried, it was better than Cats March 1, 2013

Well, OK I have never seen Cats, but there was two back to back chapters in here that killed me. One with laughter, the other with sadness. This story makes me want my son to have been attending her daughter's class and enjoying all these little disasters and beautiful successes that were made. Originally, I had only planned on reading a few chapters and ended up devouring the book. This is a great read and I would highly recommend this especially if you enjoy food and have kids.

I loved this book! Funny, honest, inspiring and entertaining. A total bargain at the 1.99 price. She captured each of the individual personalities so well: the children, the teachers, and even herself.
