great small lcd tv,

This tv is perfect for a bedroom or study. Its small, lightweight, and has a great picture. I like the size with the speaker set below the screen. The tvs with the speakers on the sides only make the tv too wide, after all its just a 20 inch. Its not HD but we don't need HD. Plusses are picture quality, aquos reputation, and price. Picture quality for regular tv (not HD) compared very well to Sony's 19 inch lcd. However the best picture in my house is still my 24 inch Toshiba flat screen (but its big and heavy).

Excellent TV for the money. Great picture (it's an EDTV, not HD) but cable plugged directly into this TV produces a great picture anyway.

Dated but Fine,

This TV, though built a few years ago(two),is an excellent set. It received a top in Consumers' Report and at that time was pricey. Amazon repriced it on the basis of the present competition, so the price was fair and considering the absence of shipping fees, it was a buy. It is easy to use and the picture is sharp and the color bright. After some fifty purchases from Amazon I commend them on their products and service.

Excellent regular TV,

This 20" Sharp has regular NTSC resolution, so it's best suited for regular cable and broadcast, although it'll handle digital contents with aplomb, looking better than most other LCD or CRT sets. (I'm not sure why Amazon's description calls this EDTV; to me EDTV means 800x600 resolution.) The picture quality is where Sharp's LCDs shine: the colors are rich at default, and can be pleasantly saturated when you increase the color level. The set itself is quite stylish and makes a great fashion statement. Even though the price is on the high side, you get much better reliability and picture quality than cheaper brands. Enjoy this nice LCD TV!

The best of 4:3 aspect LCD TV,

20" is the biggest one you can find for 4:3 LCD TV. Sharp Aquos is famous, one of two most famous in the market right now (the other is Panasonic). However, this one is the best since very cheap price meets the best qualify. Got it for $490. I bought 4, 2 for family and other 2 for my father's collegues :)).
Thanks Amazon for cheap price.

Perfect For Our Needs,

For nearly 10 months we had a 15" Sharp Aquos LCD TV sitting on a countertop in our dinning room. The speakers were on the sides of the display screen, so it made the television fairly wide, even though it had a 4:3 aspect ratio picture. The picture quality was great, but the sound was barely adequate. When music played during introductions to our favorite sitcoms (and during commercials), there was noticeable distortion to the sound. My wife and I decided to pursue a slightly larger LCD set, which we could mount on the wall, which would hopefully have better audio quality. We also wanted a TV which had speakers below the display screen, so that it would not be so wide. After doing a fair amount of research on the Net, we discovered the Sharp LC-20S4US, 20" LCD TV. It seemed to fit the bill; sporting a decent sized video image for our dinning room, it had speakers UNDER the display, and it weighed only 14 lbs. We couldn't find any local retailers that carried this model any longer, and finally found it here at Amazon. The price was fair, and the shipping was fast! The box arrived in perfect condition, and I was able to easily mount the set on the wall in less than half an hour (with an OmniMount CL-S Wishbone Cantilever arm). Only a few minor adjustments were needed to get the audio and video looking and sounding wonderful. The picture on this set is nice and bright, with fairly impressive contrast and color overall, considering it is not a high def set. What really made us happy was the sound. The audio offers about twice the quality of our smaller LCD TV, with no noticeable distortion, even at fairly high volume levels (we have three young children who make enough noise to warrant substantial volume from the TV). Flat panel TV speakers are always a little shallow in tone quality, but this set really makes an impressive effort. We have a coax cable coming from our satellite tunner going into the TV, and we are using component video cables coming from a DVD/VCR combo. The DVD images look a bit sharper than the basic satellite signal (surely due to the component connection to the combo unit), but even the basic TV shows look very nice for a dinning room environment. Although this TV would be a bit small for a large room, and the video and audio quality would certainly not be adequate for entertaining guests, I would highly recommend this set for anyone who desires a moderately priced LCD for a bedroom or dinning room, which is looking for above average video and audio quality, and who does not require high definition or a wide 16:9 aspect ratio. There are higher quality sets out there, which also carry a higher price tag, but for the money I think this LCD TV is one of the better bargains available today. =o)

Very satisfied with the picture and compactness (below picture speakers). DVD picture clarity and sharpness is fantastic. However, mostly used as an alternate TV for watching analog cable. Very good picture quality with regular cable which is one of the major factors for deciding on this Sharp TV (some other LCD TVs do great with HD but appear sloppy with standard analog).

We bought two sets for the kids; it took under 15 minutes to unpack and get it to work; the picture quality is superb; the kids are very happy.

The 2 primary reasons for this purchase were to get a good picture and have a TV that was light enough to put on a wall mount in my bedroom. Tlhis set fulfilled both of those needs. It would be nice if it had a way to identify the program being watched. Aside from that, it's a very good set.

Poor quality, poor service,

I bought a sharp lcd tv from j& r in new york last Jan, after a year and half, when powering on the tv, sometimes works, sometimes not. after unplug in, wait for a while and plug back, worked for a couple months. Send it to service center to checkup, was told that the lcd control board needs to be replaced. when request to get back the replaced lcd control board, was told that sharp does not give back the replaced board, it has to be shipped back, otherwise, you have to pay additional fee to get back the replaced board.. it's rather strange to hear such a lousy policy from any vendor..
But, if you do want to get a sharp, better get a long long warranty, it would help down the road. |
