2.0 out of 5 stars Sharp Aquos has quality issues

5.0 out of 5 stars Sharp rocks, December 14, 2005
This review is from: Sharp LC-32D4U AQUOS 32-Inch Flat Panel HD-Ready LCD TV (Electronics)
I spent months researching whether to buy plasma or LCD, deciding which size screen would best suit our needs, and which brand offers the best value/quality. Hands down, the Sharp Aquos line of LCDs is the best choice. Initially planned to buy the LC-32DA5U, but finally opted to spend a little more for the D4 series, which comes in black casing instead of silver, has enhanced sound quality (BBE and surround sound), a more advanced tuner, and a digital card slot. There is no better quality picture in the LCD line than Sharp.

While many flat panel owners note that non-digital channels don't look so great, the Sharp tuner handles the lower channels very well, with a minimum of distortion.

Buy the Sharp if you can, at least the DA5U series, and if you can spring for a couple hundred dollars more, get the 4U series. You will not be disappointed.

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent TV, February 27, 2006
This review is from: Sharp LC-32D4U AQUOS 32-Inch Flat Panel HD-Ready LCD TV (Electronics)
After much research, decided on this TV. Amazon had the best price ($300 less than Circuit City and Sears). Shipment arrived on schedule and TV is amazing. Love the black cabinet color. Cable Card worked, but much slower at changing channels than the HD Cable Box so am not using it.

Bought Sharp Aquos, loved it - great picture, sound. However, it died in one week. It would turn off by itself occassionally, and then a couple of days later it died for good. Only a flashing LED.

Looked on the internet for problems with Aquos, and saw a whole slew of people have issues. It dies for more than one reason. Sharp Customer support got me to take it to a local repair shop, and it took 4 WEEKS to get it fixed. Very frustrating experience. Brand new TV sitting at a repair shop for 4 weeks. There were several other Aquos (different sizes, models) sitting in the shop.

Once it was fixed, the picture and everything looks great. Based on what I gathered from various other reviews on different sites, it is a great design, but Sharp has quality issues. Don't know what percentage of the TV suffer the "infant mortality".

Update (Nov 5,2006)
In Sept, the TV started acting up again. In October, it died again for good. Sharp has agreed to exchange it with, I am assuming, a new set. Currently waiting on the replacement.

5.0 out of 5 stars Love this TV, December 21, 2005
This review is from: Sharp LC-32D4U AQUOS 32-Inch Flat Panel HD-Ready LCD TV (Electronics)
After months of admiring various flat panel hd tv's we finally bit the big one and bought one for Christmas. After looking at several models we decided that Sharp had the best picture quality and the best defination (8000:1) for the price. It is also cable card ready and the black panel is dynamite when hung on the wall. It looks very sleek and classy. It tends to sell out quickly so you may have to have it shipped in from another store or order one but you won't be sorry you waited.

2.0 out of 5 stars Slow Channel Changing, April 2, 2007
This review is from: Sharp LC-32D4U AQUOS 32-Inch Flat Panel HD-Ready LCD TV (Electronics)
I originally bought this set because of the glowing reviews I read. The picture quality is excellent and the set itself is most attractive. The big problem in my household is the amount of time it takes for the channels to change. When switching from one channel to another it takes as much as 6 seconds to complete the change. Since we're channel surfers, this is completely unacceptable and I intend to replace the set soon (after 6 months). I called Sharp about the problem and they told me it was not something that could be fixed. Many people like to surf the channels and it is absolutely impossible with this set. Be warned!

1.0 out of 5 stars Great Picture (while it lasts!), July 17, 2007

I usually don't bother writing reviews unless I find something that is exceptional. This is the rare one that happens to be exceptionally BAD.

Just like several other posters, I had my Aquos for a few weeks then it died. Just the two leds flashing in some pattern. The repair man took three trips to fix it over a two week period. The warranty just expired last month and the *!#@$#%& thing is just flashing leds again.

Judging from a quick Google search, If you get one that dies in the first month - exchange it - quick!

3.0 out of 5 stars if sound fails, faulty audio insulation pad, February 23, 2010
By
This review is from: Sharp LC-32D4U AQUOS 32-Inch Flat Panel HD-Ready LCD TV (Electronics)
We have a sharp 32 inch aquos sharp model LC-32D4U. Had it for several years, working great. Then sound just stopped working. First intermittently, then completely silent. Good picture whole time. Found out its a faulty insulation pad on audio output IC2502. If you call Sharp at 1800-BE-SHARP they will get someone to fix it for you for free. The part number needed is PSPAZA663WJKZ. Didnt need receipt, just serial number on back.

2.0 out of 5 stars Be careful..., August 21, 2006
This review is from: Sharp LC-32D4U AQUOS 32-Inch Flat Panel HD-Ready LCD TV (Electronics)
I had assumed I was going to get my set professionally calibrated after I bought it, like I had done with my last TV. Sharp, however, has deleted the picture controls necessary for calibration, so the best picture you can possibly get by "knob twiddling" is far inferior to what can be produced by almost any other set. Sharp, of course, does not mention this in their literature, and none of the reviews that steered me towards this set in the first place mentioned it either. If you absolutely love the picture as you see it in the store, then go for it. But remember, the lighting and power conditions in your living room are not the same as in the store. The best I can do with the rudimentary controls Sharp supplies is a choice between slightly green faces and slightly pink ones.

After weeks of admiration I finally got mine last night! The picture is super clear, sharp, and beautiful. Thankfully I didn't have to wait, but if I had, it would have been worth it!
