Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Sharp Aquos LC-37D4U 37-Inch HD-Ready Flat-Panel LCD TV (Electronics)
I just received this TV last week. Spent a few months researching 37 inch flat panel HD TVs and kept coming back to the Sharp Aquos line because of the superb picture and features. I am not disappointed in my purchase. The screen looks great from any angle, even at 170 degrees.

HD broadcasts look superb, even at factory default settings. Other than turning up the bass a bit, turning on the virtual surround-sound feature, customizing the screen font/characteristics, and turning on the OPC/DL feature (that allows the brightness to automatically adjust with room lighting), I really haven't changed any other settings.

Even analog TV looks good on this unit, as long as you aren't standing too close to it. The TV has a great "Smart Stretch" feature that somehow displays 4:3 analog broadcasts on the full 16:9 screen without causing any noticeable distortion or picture cropping. I'm not sure how this is accomplished, but it is impressive, esp. compared to stretching techniques used by other brands or cable boxes.

I avoided a plasma screen unit because of the possible "fading" problem over time. Despite the reputation that LCDs have about poor black levels, I find this set's black level to be fine, living up to its high contrast ratio (even for an LCD).

The Aquos line of HD TVs is more expensive than most other flat panel LCDs, but in my opinion, it is worth the extra money. After all, how often do you buy a TV like this?

I bought this set through Amazon. They use a professional shipping company that was very nice about delivering the unit and removing the packaging material. The set arrived in perfect condition.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great picture and great sound, January 8, 2006

I've now owned this specific model for about 2 weeks and I must say the picture is fantastic.

I did a lot of research on the web prior to purchasing this Sharp and I'm very pleased with my choice.

My advice to anyone considering purchasing their first flat panel tv: Narrow down your choice to 2 or 3 models and then go to a store and look at it---and not just for 10 seconds.

We made several trips to various stores to look at the TVs. We looked at the picture and listened to the audio. This was a big purchase for us so we took our time. Also, keep in mind that the TV's in the stores are not optimally set for color. The stores let us play with the settings to make sure we were happy.

Finally, this is a full HDTV. It supports 720p and 1080i.

1.0 out of 5 stars Poor customer service, July 12, 2006
This review is from: Sharp Aquos LC-37D4U 37-Inch HD-Ready Flat-Panel LCD TV (Electronics)
I bought a Sharp Aquos 37" and experienced a problem in a storm that caused the system to freeze. No big deal I thought because most everything has a reboot sequence.

Well, I was right but Sharp charged me $175 to do this because someone had to come to the house to do the magic button sequence.

I thought at least spending this much on a Tv that even though it was out of the 12 month warranty since this is a software/firmware issue Sharp would waive the fee.

Boy was I wrong.

Beware of Sharp Warranty.
